  • "It's great to come away with a couple wins against a Daemen team that was ready to play," said head coach Matt Darling. "Daemen really played great in the second match and pushed us to the limit. I'm really proud of how our team rallied in the fifth set—everyone was excited and played to win, which is how you need to respond after losing a couple of sets."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon got things going doubling up Daemen, 8-4, after a kill from Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute). Both teams then settled into the match to find themselves deadlocked at 16-16. Following a Wildcat kill, the Golden Knights rattled off four straight points to build a three-point edge, 20-17. Gannon won the frame, 25-20.
  • Daemen pushed back the second set grabbing a 10-8 advantage. The Knights responded taking advantage of attack errors to regain the lead, 12-10. Neither team was able to pull away until Gannon stole the final two points following an attack error and kill from Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) to win the stanza, 25-22.
  • Gannon started the third frame constructing a four-point lead after back-to-back kills from Laura Bebinger (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington). The Knights then began to put the match away increasing their lead to 18-9 after two more kills from Sampson. Gannon won the third set, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon totaled 62 digs, 40 kills and 36 assists.
  • The Knights logged their fifth straight sweep and ninth of the season.
  • Sampson tallied a match-high 12 kills and added eight digs to her stat line.
  • Torres posted her first double-double of the season and fourth of her career with 13 assists and 13 digs.
  • Lasher contributed a team-high 20 digs with five assists. It marked her sixth double digit dig performance of the season.
  • Kaeli Kristensen (Calgary, Alberta/Dr. E.P. Scarlett) passed out a team-high 17 assists with six digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon quickly built a double-digit lead in the first set following a service ace from Madde Blake (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central). The Knights continued to roll from there increasing their lead to 11, 17-6, after Bebinger sent a kill past the Wildcat defense. Gannon went on to win the frame, 25-15.
  • The Knights stayed in an offensive rhythm into the second stanza after Sampson connected on kill to make the score 13-8. Gannon didn't look back from there closing the set with six unanswered points to win the frame, 25-15.
  • Daemen began to fight back in third frame stealing the first four points. After trading points, the Knights assembled an 8-0 run to regain the lead, 10-6. Gannon then took control creating a four-point lead, 24-20, following an attack error. However, Daemen closed the frame with a momentum swinging 6-0 run to steal the set, 26-24.
  • The Wildcats continued to storm back in the fourth frame creating a 10-2 advantage. Daemen then increased its edge up to 12, 17-5, by the midway point. The Wildcats went on to take the frame, 25-13, and lock the match, 2-2.
  • Both teams exchanged points to lock the fifth stanza, 5-5. Gannon then assembled a big 7-0 run featuring two kills from Greenfield to create 12-5 lead. Gannon held off Damen the rest of the way to win the set, 15-6, and the match, 3-2.
GAME NOTES
  • The contest marked the Knights' first five set match of the season.
  • As a team, Gannon totaled 68 digs, 51 kills, 46 assists and season-high 13 total blocks.
  • Sampson registered her sixth double digit kill performance of the season with a team-high 11 kills to go along with six digs.
  • Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) also reached double figures in kills with 10 and added in four digs.
  • Kristensen distributed a team-high 24 assists with five digs and one kill.
  • Torres contributed 17 assists and five digs.
  • Blake just missed out on a double-double with a season-high 15 digs and seven kills.
  • Katie Becht (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) rounded out the top performers notching 12 digs.

  • Gannon is back in action on Wednesday hosting Mercyhurst at Hammermill Center. The doubleheader is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
