HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon got the scoring started as Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) delivered a double into right center scoring Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 edge. Following scoreless second and third innings, Gannon took control with a three-run fourth frame.
  • Lea Coffman (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) started the big frame scoring on a wild pitch to make the score 2-0. Taliani kept the momentum rolling connecting on an RBI single into left center to push the lead to 3-0. Lyndsey Lakatos (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) then followed it up with an RBI single of her own through the right side to increase the edge to 4-0.
  • Taliani helped add an insurance run in the sixth sending her second double of the contest to left center scoring Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) to secure the 5-0 win.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon totaled 11 hits and four RBI.
  • Taliani went 3-for-4 at the plate with three hits, including a season-high two doubles. She also matched a season-best three RBI.
  • Ryan and Bush each contributed two hits and two runs.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) (3-5) tossed four strikeouts and held Slippery Rock to a season-low three hits in a complete game. It marked her first shutout of the season and fifth of her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Slippery Rock pushed back in game two jumping out to a 1-0 advantage in the first inning after Anna Villies scored an unearned run. Coffman answered for the Knights in the second frame launching a double to left field allowing Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) to get home and lock the contest, 1-1.
  • Following scoreless third and fourth innings, Gannon snatched its first lead of the contest after Lily Gfeller (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) tacked on an unearned run after a throwing error to make the score 2-1.
  • Gannon added an insurance run in the sixth inning after Gfeller connected on a single down the right field line to score Kristinia DeMatteis and seal the 3-1 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon tallied seven hits and two RBI.
  • Kristinia DeMatteis contributed a game-high two runs with one hit.
  • Gfeller notched a season-high two hits and posted her first run of the season.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) (4-5) went the distance logging her second straight complete game with four strikeouts. It marked her seventh complete game of the season and 33rd of her career.

  • Gannon and Slippery Rock will wrap up their four-game series on Tuesday at McConnell Family Stadium. The doubleheader is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
