HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Indiana (Pa.) got the scoring started after Austin Mueller scored on an unearned run to make the score 1-0. The Crimson Hawks then doubled their lead as Colin Williams sent a home run into right field to extend the edge to 2-0.
  • After a scoreless third inning, Ryan Kalbfus (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) ignited the Golden Knights with a single into center field allowing the Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) to get home, 2-1. Adam Malecki (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) grounded out to third base sending Tyler Mattocks (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) across to lock the contest, 2-2.
  • Following two scoreless innings, Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) came up with a clutch double down the left field line sending Jorge Mejia (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Jose) home for the walk-off winning run to complete the 3-2 comeback.
GAME NOTES
  • Kalbfus paced the Knights going 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI.
  • Wetherholt contributed one hit and one run.
  • Kevin Schott (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny ) (1-2) earned his first career win tossing three strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
  • Marshall Murray (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) closed things out on the hill earning his third save of the season.

HuOW IT HAPPENED
  • IUP once again scored first to get things going in game two as Harrison Pontoli got home, 1-0, on a throwing error for an unearned run in the opening frame. Gannon answered right back in the bottom half after Wetherholt delivered an RBI single down the right field line to lock the contest, 1-1. Malecki followed it up blasting a single into center field to score Wetherholt to give the Knights their first lead of the game, 2-1.
  • The Crimson Hawks answered right back in the second stanza as Markus Cestra grounded out to second base allowing Nick Hess to score, 2-2. Gannon regained the lead with a two-run fourth frame highlighted by Kalbfus using a sacrifice fly into deep center field to score Wetherholt to make the score 4-2.
  • IUP surged back in the top half of the seventh as Mueller sent a two RBI single into right field to deadlock the contest, 4-4. Gannon got two runners on in the bottom half of the frame after Vega was hit by a pitch and Wetherholt was intentionally walked. Vega then stole third and advanced on a throwing error to notch the Knights' second walk-off win the day, 5-4, and complete the series sweep.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon posted eight hits and four RBI.
  • Wetherholt filled his stat line going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI.
  • Gagnon tallied two hits, two runs and one stolen base.
  • Vega registered a game-high two stolen bases with one run.
  • Benjamin Visnesky (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin Area) got the start on the mound throwing a game-high five strikeouts.
  • Murray (1-0) picked up his first career win closing out the final inning with one strikeout.
UP NEXT
  • Gannon will continue its homestand hosting Pitt-Johnstown on Friday at McConnell Family Stadium. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
