Judy Fires One-Hitter as Gannon Picks Up Key Road Wins

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After two scoreless opening innings, Trey Zeroski (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny) cracked an RBI double into left center and was able to advance to third on an error. Kyle Ives (Fox River Grove, Ill. /Cary-Grove Community) then followed it up sending a sacrifice fly into right field allowing Zeroski to get home, 1-0.
  • IUP threatened to steal the lead getting two runners on in three straight innings over the third, fourth and fifth innings, but Deven Judy (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon Area) was able to work out of each jam to preserve the shutout win.
GAME NOTES
  • Alex Baldi (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) and Zeroski each registered a hit for the Knights.
  • Judy (3-3) logged his third complete game of the season going all 7.0 innings with a game-high 10 strikeouts and limiting IUP to one hit. It marked his second double digit pitching performance of the season and sixth of his career. Judy also tallied his second shutout of the season and fifth of his career, which ties him with Aaron Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) (2013-15) for first place on the all-time list. Additionally, Judy increased his career win total to 15, which ties him with Jarod Morrison (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) (2016-19) for fourth on the all-time list.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless opening inning in game two, Alex Baldi (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) connected on a two RBI shot to left field to put the Knights on the board, 2-0. Zeroski followed it up in the fourth inning with a two RBI single of his own to right center to push the Knights edge up to 4-0.
  • IUP ended the shutout bid as Markus Cestra reached on an error to allow Caden DeCroo to score an unearned run to make the score 4-1. Gannon began to put the game out of reach with three-run sixth inning highlighted by a Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) single into right field to send Gagnon home to stretch the lead up to 7-1.
  • The Crimson Hawks tried to rally in the sixth stanza as Colin Williams blasted an RBI triple, 7-2, but Tre Thomas (Ambridge, Pa. /Ambridge Area) then struck out the next batter looking to end the frame. Jimmy Colvin (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) came in to close the final inning for the Knights on the mound to help the secure the 7-2 run.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon posted 10 hits and seven RBI.
  • Four different Knights registered at least two hits in the contest.
  • Ryan Kalbfus (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a game-high three runs. He also added one stolen base to his stat line.
  • Baldi notched two hits with two RBI.
  • Thomas (3-2) fired a game-high seven strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work.
UP NEXT
  • Gannon and IUP will wrap the series tomorrow at McConnell Family Stadium for senior day. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
