HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Clarion opened scoring in the second inning with an RBI groundout before adding three runs in the third with the help of a wild pitch and two-run single by Rebecca Kelley to make it 4-0.
  • The Golden Eagles immediately responded as they took control of the game with nine runs on nine hits in the third led off by senior Maria Taliani's (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) second career grand slam to level the score.
  • Lyndsey Lakatos (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) kept the momentum with a single through the left side before the senior advanced to second on a hit to left by Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe)Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) advanced to first on a walk after an 11-pitch at bat to load the bases bringing Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) to the plate.
  • Ryan placed a ball just out of the second baseman's reach to score Angela Vicini (Perry, Ohio/Perry) from third to get the go ahead lead before three straight singles extended the Golden Knight's lead 9-4.
  • Gannon would add their run of the game in the fifth as Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) tripled into left center to score Lily Gfeller (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) from first.
  • The Golden Eagles would go down fighting as Alyssa Stitt tripled down the right field line avoiding a diving play by Gfeller before she scored on a fly ball to left.  Another run would cross the plate for Clarion but a groundout to third would end the threat securing the 10-6 victory.
