ERIE, Pa. — A shortened, but successful, season for the Gannon men's water polo team came to an abrupt end Thursday morning, as the Collegiate Water Polo Association was forced to trim its field for the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship this weekend.
Scheduled to be an eight-team tournament — including the MAWPC-West runner-up Golden Knights — the tournament was cut to just three teams due to scheduling and facility limitations after the original host Navy saw its athletics teams and facilities put on pause.
CWPA RELEASE
The CWPA contacted more than 45 potential sites to serve as replacement host, but only Bucknell was both capable and willing, and then only for a three-team, two-game, one-day event.
The Golden Knights finish their delayed and truncated winter 2021 season with a 7-2 overall record. They reached the MAWPC-West championship game for the second consecutive season and third time in the past four years.
