KEY SEQUENCE
  • A four-goal run late in the first half for the Golden Knights got them back in it, but after the guests also netted the first of the second half, Slippery Rock got two quick scores and buckled down defensively to hold on for the PSAC West win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Rock got on the board quickly, scoring just over a minute into the contest, then adding another 40 seconds later. The hosts kept the scoring streak going, and would score the first eight goals of the game to build its lead.
  • The deficit didn't deter Gannon though, as Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) tallied a man-up goal with less than 10 minutes to play in the half, starting a run for the Golden Knights. Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) added her first of the season on a free position attempt at the 5:38 mark, then McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) netted a pair of quick ones as Gannon cut the Rock lead in half over a span of just six minutes.
  • SRU managed to score two goals in the final 69 seconds of the period though, and after Maddie Krock (Granville, Ohio/Granville) scored on the first possession of the second half for the Knights, the Rock answered to make it 11-5.
  • Woodworth made it 12-6 five minutes into the half with her third goal of the game, but Slippery Rock scored the next four to rebuild its lead. Jacobs closed the scoring on a high note for Gannon, nabbing the final two goals of the game.

GAME NOTES
  • Jacobs made an impact in her season debut, matching Woodworth with three goals in the game. Jacobs tallied eight goals in six games last season, and matched her career high with Wednesday's three. The sophomore also led the team with three caused turnovers and six draw controls.
  • Despite the two-week layoff, Woodworth continued her tear, as her three goals Wednesday gives her seven over the past two games. The freshman also added her first career assist against the Rock, and put up a team-high nine shots to go with four ground balls.
  • Emma Ivory (Cranberry Township, Pa./North Catholic) lead the Knights with five ground balls, while Tufts posted four to go with her goal, two caused turnovers and six draws.
