HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following a scoreless first two frames of action, the Storm got on the scoreboard after Dani Soria was able to get across on a wild pitch to make the score 1-0.
  • Lake Erie added one more run in the fourth stanza after Jesse Carpenter connected on an RBI single to increase the lead to 2-0.
  • Gannon attempted to rally late in the seventh inning as Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) delivered a singe into left, but she was left stranded and the Golden Knights dropped the contest, 2-0.
GAME NOTES
  • Taliani and Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) both contributed one hit each for the Knights.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) (2-5) got the start and went all 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts. It marked her fourth complete game of the season and 30th of her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kiya Smith got the scoring started for Lake Erie in the opening frame with a RBI double into center to make the score 1-0. Following a scoreless second and third frame, Gannon came alive with a three-run fourth inning to steal the lead, 3-1, as Hannah Neal (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) cracked a RBI single.
  • The Knights continued to swing a hot bat from there tacking on four more runs in the fifth frame. Taliani got the inning started smashing a two RBI home run to center field, 5-1. Kristinia DeMatteis followed it up with another two RBI home run to stretch the lead to 7-1. Neal capped the big inning launching her first career home run to make the score 8-1.  
  • The Storm attempted to comeback in the sixth as Jaime Carpenter delivered a two RBI double to left to pull within five, 8-3. However, Gannon closed out the rest of the contest to pick up the 8-3 win.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon posted 10 hits with seven RBI.
  • Taliani went 3-for-4 at the plate with three hits, two runs, two RBI and one home run. It marked her fourth home run of the season and 25th of her career.
  • DeMatteis contributed two RBI, one run, one hit and one home run. It was her third home run of the season and 14th of her career.
  • Neal went 2-of-3 at the plate with two hits, two RBI and one run.
  • Tatone (3-4) logged her second complete game of her career going all 7.0 innings and tossing a career-high eight strikeouts in the win.
UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns to action with an exhibition contest against Jamestown Community College on Sunday. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at Noon at McConnell Family Stadium.
