HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game was scoreless through the first four innings as Deven Judy (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon Area) only allowed one hit. Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) sparked the Golden Knights in the bottom half of the fourth as he doubled to left center to send Trey Zeroski (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny) home, 1-0.
  • Gannon added one more in the fourth as Adam Malecki (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) drilled his first career triple to left scoring Wetherholt to make the score 2-0.
  • Following a scoreless fifth frame, Malecki delivered his first career double to deep left center, which allowed Zeroski to get home and increase the lead to 3-0. Judy closed the contest out on the mound adding two more strikeouts to seal the 3-0 win.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon posted six hits with three RBI.
  • Malecki went 2-for-3 at the plate with two hits and team-best two RBI.
  • Zeroski tallied a season-high two runs with one hit.
  • Judy (1-2) earned his first win of the season going all 7.0 innings and firing a season-high 12 strikeouts. It marked his first complete game of the season and eighth of his career. With the win, Judy increased his career victories total to 13, which ties Aaron Jackson (Sugar Grove, Pa./Eisenhower) (2013-17) and Matthew Yough (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) (2016-19) for fifth on the Gannon all-time list.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team was able to push a run across in the first three and a half innings as Eric Sapp (Deerfield, Ohio/Southeast) got the start on the hill for the Knights and only allowed one hit over that span.
  • Gannon erupted in the bottom half of the fourth inning as Brandan Rea (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillian) blasted a two RBI single to right center to make the score 2-0. Mattocks followed it up smashing a single through the right side to send Rea and Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) across, 4-0.
  • Andre Gillems (Canton, Ohio/Canton McKinley) cracked the game open for the Knights with a two RBI double down the right field line to increase the edge to 6-0. Mercyhurst attempted to rally with a five-run sixth inning to pull within one, 6-5, after Matthew Gibson connected on a two RBI double into left field. However, Gannon held off the late surge as Kevin Schott (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny ) was able to get final out and put cap on the win, 6-5.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon posted nine hits and six RBI.
  • Rea went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and one run.
  • Mattocks added in two RBI with one run and one hit.
  • Sapp (2-1) got the start and picked up his second win of the season on the mound tossing a game-high seven strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
  • Kevin Schott (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny ) earned his first career save finishing the final inning for the Knights with one strikeout.
