The Short Story: The Gannon men's soccer team tied it up midway through the second half, then Benjamin Querling (Zuelpich, Germany/Emil-Fischer Gymnasium) slotted home the game winner 75 seconds into the second overtime period to give the Golden Knights a road win at Roberts Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon pushed the pace early, getting shots from Lennox Crews (Offenbach, Germany/Leibnizschule), Querling and Sergio Del Castillo (Madrid, Spain/) in the first 15 minutes to keep the Redhawks on their heels. The hosts countered with a shot in the 21st minute that found the back of the net to take the lead.
  • The final 20 minutes of the half saw little chances for either team, with a Querling strike less than two minutes before the break getting blocked the only shot during that span for the Golden Knights.
  • Gannon broke through with their first shot of the second half, as James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) found Del Castillo for the equalizer in the 54th minute. Golden Knight keeper David Weber (Sevelen, Switzerland/Liechtensteinisches Gymnasium Vaduz) turned away the only shot on goal of the half from Roberts Wesleyan, and a flurry of action from Gannon in the final 12 minutes of regulation didn't produce a score.
  • The Redhawks got an early crack in overtime with a shot that fluttered wide in the 92nd minute, and Del Castillo had a shot blocked two minutes later as things stayed even after 10 minutes of extra time.
  • An excellent interception at midfield started the game-winning attack, and Querling got a well-placed pass at the top of the box. The freshman took one touch to get around a defender and fired a low shot inside the left post to send the Golden Knights home winners.
