GAME DAY MEDIA CENTER
QUOTABLE
"We're happy to get a win, and I'm pleased that everyone on the active roster was able to contribute today," said head coach
Matt Darling. "It doesn't look like much on the stat sheet, but each lineup that was put on the court did its job against a D'Youville team that played hard and kept us off-balance for long stretches of today's match. I'm proud of the whole team."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gannon grabbed its first lead of the day, 5-4, after Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) connected on a service ace. After both teams then traded points to lock the contest, 10-10, Gannon rattled off nine straight points to take control of the set. Gannon didn't look back from there and went on to take the first frame. 25-13.
- Both teams exchanged points in the second stanza to find themselves deadlocked at 12-12. The Knights then assembled six unanswered points to open an 18-12 edge after Ashely McClung delivered a kill. Gannon won the second set, 25-15.
- D'Youville was able to build a 18-10 edge late into the third frame. Gannon responded to come all the way back to steal the lead following back-to-back service aces from Madde Blake (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) to make the score 19-18. The Knights went on to win the frame, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
