  • The Short Story: Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) notched her second straight 20-point game with a game-high 20 points as No. 20/25 Gannon rolled past Bluefield State, 90-60, on Friday night at Hammermill Center.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After battling some early turnovers, Gannon raced out to a 13-3 lead after Emily Poling (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) found Pirosko for a jumper. Bluefield State then got hot from three connecting on all six attempts from downtown to pull within two, 23-21. The Golden Knights led after the first quarter, 25-21. Emma Wright (Erie, Pa./Talawanda) paced Gannon with eight points and three assists.
  • The Knights opened the second frame connecting on two straight possessions from downtown after Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) drained a triple, 31-27, at the 7:34 mark. Gannon kept its foot on the gas increasing its lead back into double digits, 40-29, following a Pirosko jumper. The Knights led at the intermission, 43-36. Both teams combined to connect on 18 triples in the half with Gannon netting eight of their own. Wright paced the Knights with 12 points and six rebounds at the break.
  • Gannon came out clicking offensively in the third frame constructing an 8-4 run to push its edge to 11, 51-40, following a Delaney Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) layup. Ashlie Louden quickly answered for Big Blue draining a three pointer, 51-43, at the 4:20 mark. Gannon closed the quarter on a 9-3 run featuring four points from Pirosko and led after three, 60-46.
  • Gannon continued to roll in the fourth quarter stretching its lead up to 18, 49-67, following a Pirosko layup. The Knights then began to put the game away with seven straight points including five points coming from Dogan to make the score 74-51 with 5:04 play. Gannon went to close out the remaining time and pick up the win, 90-60.
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon tallied a season-high 90 points.
  • Five Knights reached double digits in scoring for the first time this season.
  • Gannon shot 62.3 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from three. The two teams combined for 23 made three pointers with the Knights netting 10.
  • Gannon grabbed 35 rebounds, including 27 on the defensive side.
  • The Knights passed out a season-high 28 assists. Nine different players contributed at least one assist.
  • Gannon also created a season-high 13 steals
  • Pirosko notched her second straight 20-point game with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. She also added in six rebounds and career-best five assists.
  • Wright netted a career-best 17 points with nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.
  • Mitchell matched a season-high 14 points with three steals, two assists and two rebounds.
  • Dogan contributed 14 points with a career-high four assists and four rebounds.
  • Poling rounded out the top performers with 10 points. She also matched a career-high in assists (5) and steals (4).
