  • The Short Story: Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) tallied her fourth 20-point game of the season and Emma Wright (Erie, Pa./Talawanda) poured in 16 points as No. 12/23 Gannon extended its win streak to seven games after rolling past Saint Rose, 61-47, on Sunday afternoon.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon got things rolling early building an 11-2 advantage after Pirosko knocked down a jumper at the 4:52 mark. Following a Saint Rose layup, the Knights rattled off four straight points following a Pirosko jumper and a couple free throws from Delaney Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) to make the score 15-4. Gannon led after the opening frame, 16-9.
  • Saint Rose battled back in the second quarter pulling within five, 18-13, with 6:34 to play in the half. Gannon quickly pushed its lead back into double figures after Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) found Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) for a triple, 23-13. The Knights led at the break, 30-18. Pirosko paced the Knights with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field.
  • Saint Rose opened the third frame cutting the edge down to six, 32-26, following a jumper from Ashia Smith. Wright answered for the Knights increasing their lead back up to nine, 37-28, after she drained a three pointer at the 4:24 mark. Gannon then began to take control closing the frame with 10 straight points and building a 16-point advantage after Faith Williams (Grafton, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) netted a triple, 47-31.
  • Gannon continued to roll in the fourth quarter increasing its edge to 52-34 following a Williams three pointer with 6:56 to play. Saint Rose battled back to pull within 12, 59-47, with 43 seconds remaining. However, Gannon closed out the remaining time to extend its win streak to seven games, 61-47.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon extended its win streak to seven games and improved to 11-1 overall. The Knights are also 6-0 on the road this season.
  • Gannon shot 50.0 percent from the field (21-42) and 38.9 percent from three (7-18).
  • The Knights collected 24 rebounds, including 15 on the defensive end.
  • Gannon created 12 steals as a team.
  • The Knights scored 18 points off turnovers and 26 in the paint.
  • Pirosko reached double digits in scoring for her 10th straight game with a game-high 20 points. It also marked her fourth 20-point game this season. She shot 9-of-11 from the field and also added in four rebounds and one steal.
  • Wright notched her eighth double digit scoring performance of the season with 16 points. She connected on four triples on seven attempts to go along with two rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
  • Mitchell filled her stat line with a game-high eight assists, seven points, four steals, three rebounds and one block.
  • Dogan netted eight points to go along with a game-high six rebounds, three steals and one assist.
