 GAME DAY MEDIA CENTER QUOTABLE
  • "The team is, understandably, very excited about the win tonight," said head coach Matt Darling. "Most impressive was the way we bounced back from a shaky first set; from that point forward, though, I think we played very well.  Hillsdale is a great team.  We're happy to get the chance to play a such an exciting match against a tough opponent, and we did the job tonight."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hillsdale quickly doubled up Gannon, 8-4, after Madeline Zenas delivered a kill. The Chargers continued to ride the momentum of their fast start opening up an eight-point edge, 18-10, following a kill from Megan Kolp. Gannon then pushed back with four straight points that included two kills from Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) to make the score 18-14. However, the Chargers went on to close out the first set, 25-15.
  • Gannon battled back in the second stanza stealing the lead, 6-4, after an attack error and Laura Bebinger (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) kill. Both teams would then trade points until Gannon was able to rattle off four straight points, 19-14, following a kill from Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute). Gannon went on to steal the second set, 25-22, and lock the match, 1-1.
  • Gannon opened the third set building a four-point edge, 10-6, after Madde Blake (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central) connected on a service ace. The two teams then traded points to find themselves deadlocked, 13-13, by the halfway point. Gannon was able to take advantage of Hillsdale errors and create a late 20-17 advantage. The Knights went on to take the third frame, 25-22.
  • Gannon ran out to an 8-3 edge early in the fourth set after Greenfield smashed a kill. The Chargers responded to lock the contest back up, 10-10, following a kill by Maize Brown. The Knights quickly regained momentum with four points from Greenfield and Abby Kane (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) build a 14-10 edge. Gannon then started to pull away opening up a 23-16 lead after Bebinger delivered a kill. Gannon went on to win the set, 25-18, and the match, 3-1.
