  • The Short Story: Saint Rose pulled within one with less than eight minutes to play, but Gannon was able to assemble a key 5-0 run in the fourth quarter to secure the 62-56 road win. Four Golden Knights reached double digits in scoring with Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) leading the way with a team-high 18 points.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon got things going early as Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) and Emma Wright (Erie, Pa./Talawanda) each drained a triple to make the score 9-2. Saint Rose raced back with seven straight points to lock the contest, 9-9, by the 4:27 mark. Saint Rose then built a four-point edge, 17-13, following a couple free throws from Kaileigh Hunt. Gannon trailed after the frame, 17-16.
  • The Knights responded in the second quarter with a huge 10-0 run to open up a 26-17 advantage following a triple from Margo Loutzenhiser (Russell, Pa./Warren Area). Gannon continued the big frame as Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) got in on the action draining a layup, 30-19, with 1:46 on the clock. The Knights led at the intermission, 30-24. Emma Wright (Erie, Pa./Talawanda) led the way with at team-best nine points to go along with four rebounds.
  • Saint Rose pushed back in the third quarter pulling back within two, 36-34, by the 5:13 mark. Gannon responded stretching its lead back up to five, 41-36, following a free throw from Mitchell. The Knights led after three quarters of play, 45-42.
  • Saint Rose was able to cut the deficit back down to one, 49-48, after Catherine Finnerty netted a triple with 7:15 to play. Emily Poling (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) answered with five straight points after a three pointer and jumper to increase the edge back up to six, 54-48, with 5:49 remaining. Gannon went on to close out the remaining time to secure its 10th win of the season, 62-56.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon extended its win streak to six games and improved to 10-1 overall. The Knights are also 5-0 on the road this season.
  • Gannon shot 47.2 percent from the field (25-53) and 33.3 percent from three (7-21).
  • Gannon hauled in 34 rebounds, including 21 on the defensive end.
  • The Knights matched a season-high 13 steals. six different players contributed at least one steal. 
  • Pirosko notched her ninth straight double digit scoring performance with a team-high 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field. She also added in six rebounds, three assists and one steal.
  • Mitchell extended her double figure scoring streak to seven games with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. She also registered three steals, three assists, two blocks and one rebound.
  • Loutzenhiser netted a career-high 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field. She also created a career-high three steals to go along with two assists, two rebounds and one block.
  • Wright added in 11 points with six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
