  • The Short Story:  Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) netted a career-high 24 points to guide No. 22 Gannon past Salem, 72-63, at Hammermill Center on Tuesday night.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams exchanged buckets to open the contest as Clancy connected from behind the arc to lock the score, 7-7, at the 14:57 mark. The Tigers pushed back with four unanswered points to make the score 11-7. Gannon responded with five straight of its own to regain the edge, 12-11, after baskets from Amani Walker (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) and Clancy with 12:38 on the clock.
  • Barron Tanner answered for the Tigers with a triple of his own to steal the lead, 14-12. The two teams then traded possessions from there as neither team could pull away in the first 20 minutes of action with Salem holding a 33-30 advantage at the half. Clancy paced the Knights with 14 points at the break and shot 4-of-6 from three.
  • Salem opened the second half pushing their edge up to six, 36-30, following a triple from Fonz Hale. Gannon battled back to pull within two after Sean Colosimo (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) drained a triple, 43-41, with 11:24 on the clock. Ian McNeill (Erie, Pa./East) then came off the bench for the Knights and helped ignite an 8-0 run to capture the edge, 49-43.
  • Gannon started to control the pace building a double digit lead, 57-46, after McNeill stayed hot connecting on layup in traffic with 5:10 to play. Salem attempted one final comeback with the use of a full court press defense to trim the deficit down to seven, 70-63, with 35 seconds to play. However, Ike Herster (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) connected on two late free throws to help the Knights secure the win, 72-63.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon improves to 6-0 at home this season and 9-1 overall.
  • The Knights shot 42.3 percent from the field (22-52) and 40.9 percent from three (9-22).
  • Gannon grabbed 43 total rebounds, including 32 on the defensive end.
  • The Knights scored 24 points in the paint.
  • The Gannon bench netted 27 points.
  • The contest featured 10 tie scores and 10 lead changes.
  • Clancy paced the Knights logging his first 20-point game of the season and third of his career with a career-best 24 points. He matched a career-high six made three pointers on eight attempts. Clancy also matched a career-best seven rebounds.
  • Herster posted his seventh double digit scoring performance this season with 16 points. He also passed out a game-high and career-best six assists. Additionally, Herster added five rebounds, three steals and two blocks to his stat line.
  • McNeill came off the bench and contributed 11 points and six rebounds to round out the top performers.
