Golden Knights Qualify Eight For Nationals At NCWWC Regional (Highlights/Photos)

The Short Story: Hosting the first-ever regional tournament for NCAA schools, the Gannon women's wrestling team pushed eight into the top four and crowned Lana Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) a regional champion Saturday at the Gannon Recreation and Wellness Center.

EVENT NOTES

Gannon hosted the first-ever regional competition for NCAA schools in the sport of women's wrestling Saturday, hosting the Northeast qualifier for the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships.
The Golden Knights placed eight of their 13 entrants in the top four to secure a berth in the national tournament.
Perez, a freshman, won the title at 130 pounds to become Gannon's first regional champion. She was joined in the finals by Beans-Polk (136) and Devericks (191), both of whom finished in second place. Dos Santos (116), Blarr (123) and Helm (155) finished third, while Garrido (101) and Floor (170) placed fourth.
Perez capped an exciting day with a comeback in the title match at 130, netting all seven of her points in the second period to secure a 7-2 victory over seventh-ranked Eunique Davis of Tiffin.
The Golden Knights won 15 bouts on the day, including seven pins and a tech fall.
Gannon finished third in the team race, just behind Tiffin and Adrian.
The 2021 NCWWC Championships are slated for March 6 at Tiffin. It is the second year for the championship, which was created to give championship opportunities for NCAA schools sponsoring women's wrestling while the sport goes through the NCAA's Emerging Sport for Women process.

UP NEXT

Gannon will head to the 2021 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships on March 6 at Tiffin.
The eight qualifying Knights will join qualifiers from the three other regional tournaments.
