  • The Short Story: Alfonso Pickens Jr. (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) passed out a game-high 14 assists in his first career start to help No. 21 Gannon roll past D'Youville, 96-38, at Hammermill Center on Thursday night.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Knights dominated the first half with Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) leading with 11 points. Gannon started the game out strong with six unanswered points after Ike Herster (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) delivered a triple. From there, the Knights were off to a hot start building an 18-6 edge following an Ian McNeill (Erie, Pa./East) layup at the 11:44 mark.
  • With 9:45 left in the half, Sean Colosimo (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) connected on a jumper to start a dominating run for the Knights. During a run of eight unanswered points, Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) had two points and a rebound, while Clancy also netted five points. Gannon led at the half, 43-22. Pickens paced the Knights at the break handing out 10 assists.
  • The Knights opened the second half off with Herster netting 6 points in a row, including two three pointers. Gannon then started another run of 11 unanswered points paced by Clancy with 5 points to make the score 64-25 with 11:18 on the clock.
  • With 9:42 left in the game, McNeil scored six straight points push the Knights edge to 41, 71-30. The Knights then began to put the contest out of reach after Emanuel Henriques (Baltimore, Md./Benjamin Franklin) found Amani Walker (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) for a slam, 78-36, with 6:03 remaining. Gannon went on to close out the remaining time and complete the sweep of D'Youville, 96-38.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon improves to 5-0 at home and 8-0 overall.
  • The Knights shot 51.3 percent from the field (39-76) and 32.1 percent from three (9-28).
  • Gannon tallied a season-high 96 points and scored 90 or more points for the third time this season.
  • Gannon collected a season-high 57 rebounds, including 42 on the defensive end.
  • The Knights netted 56 points in the paint.
  • The bench contributed 47 points.
  • 12 different Knights tallied at least two points.
  • Clancy paced the Knights on the offensive end with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. He also added in six rebounds with two assists.
  • Herster notched his fifth straight double digit scoring performance with 13 points to go along with six rebounds.
  • McNeill netted a season-best 16 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the field with six rebounds.
  • Pickens made his first career start and passed out a game-high and career-best 14 assists. It marked the most assists by a Gannon player in a single game this season and second-most in an NCAA Division II game this season.
