GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon got things going from behind the arc early connecting on three triples to open up an 8-2 edge following a Braden Olsen (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) three pointer. The Knights continued to ride the fast start pushing their lead to double digits after Olsen found Robertas Jonaitis (Pakruojis, Lithuania/Greater Beckley Christian School) for a dunk, 17-6, at the 14:21 mark. Gannon then built its largest lead of the half, 31-9, after five straight points from Alfonso Pickens Jr. (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep)
  • The two teams then settled in as D'Youville slowly pulled its way back into the game cutting the deficit to 13, 37-24, after a Garrian Wade jumper with 4:00 to play in the half. Gannon took a 49-31 edge into the locker room at the break. Olsen paced the Knights with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, while Ike Herster (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) chipped in nine points of his own.
  • Herster opened the second half with six straight points for the Knights to increase the advantage to 20, 55-35, by the 16:56 mark. Over the next few minutes, the Saints slowly cut the deficit to 14, 63-49, following a Noah Denz layup. Jonaitis answered for Gannon once again with another dunk to make the score 65-49 by the 10:39 mark.
  • The Saints didn't go away chipping the edge down to single digits after taking advantage of free throws, 77-72, with 4:05 remaining. Clancy responded for Gannon with two clutch three pointers to push the edge back into double digits, 85-72, with 1:44 on the clock. D'Youville made one final surge pulling within eight, 89-81, after Latrell Buttler hit a three pointer with 19 seconds to play.
