  • The Short Story: Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) notched her first career 30-point game with a career-best 32 points to guide No. 17/22 Gannon past Clarion, 67-58, on Saturday night at Hammermill Center.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pirosko started the game off hot for Gannon. In the first quarter, she scored 11 of the 13 points scored by Gannon. Late in the frame, Pirosko saved a pass that was headed out of bounds, which Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) was able to convert to a two-point gain for Gannon, 13-10, with 1:59 on the clock. Ke'Airah Massiah closed the quarter to bring Clarion back within one, 13-12.
  • In the second quarter, the Golden Knights wasted no time extending their lead. A few minutes into the quarter, Gannon began a streak of nine unanswered points. The run lasted 3:05 and Pirosko scored five points during it to make the score 24-18. Gannon led at the break, 33-27. Pirosko paced the Knights with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
  • To start the third quarter, the Golden Eagles scored a quick three-pointer that brought them within three, 33-30. Pirosko immediately responded with a layup to push the Golden Knights' edge back to five, 35-30, at the 9:10 mark. Clarion battled back as Massiah tied up the game after a layup and free throw, 39-39. For the rest of the quarter, the lead went back and forth, with Gannon holding onto the edge by one, 48-47.
  • Emily Poling (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) knocked down a jumper to increase Gannon's advantage by three, 50-47, with 9:30 to play in the fourth quarter. Clarion then scored five unanswered points regain the lead, 52-50. Gannon answered with a six-point run to take back the lead, 56-52, following an Emma Wright (Erie, Pa./Talawanda) jumper. With 1:16 left in the game, Dogan stretched Gannon's advantage up to five with a layup, 59-54. Gannon went on close out the remaining time to pick up its fifth straight win, 67-58.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon improves to 5-1 at home and 9-1 overall. The Knights also extended their win streak five games, which is their longest streak of the season. 
  • Gannon shot 50.0 percent from the field (23-46) and 22.2 percent from downtown (2-9).
  • Gannon collected 31 rebounds, including 20 on the defensive end.
  • The Knights scored 38 points in the paint and 24 on fast break. 
  • Pirosko led the Knights with a career-high 32 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line. It marked her first career 30-point game and eighth straight game reaching double figures in scoring. She also added in six rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and two assists.
  • Mitchell just missed a double-double with 12 points and game-high eight rebounds. She also added two assists, one steal and one block to her stat line.
  • Wright logged her sixth game of the season in double figures with 10 points to go along with two rebounds, two steals and one assist.

  • Gannon will return to action against American International next Saturday at Hammermill Center. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
