  • The Short Story: Delaney Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) logged her first career double-double with 13 points and a career-best 10 rebounds to help No. 17/22 Gannon down Clarion, 65-53, on the road on Thursday night.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) got things going for Gannon down low delivering back-to-back layups to make the score 4-2 in the opening minutes. The Golden Knights quickly doubled up the Golden Eagles, 8-4, after Dogan contributed a layup at the 5:55 mark. Clarion pushed back with five straight points to steal its first lead of the game, 8-9, following a free throw from Abby Gatesman. Gannon trailed after the first frame, 14-13.
  • The Knights quickly regained the lead in the second quarter after Emma Wright (Erie, Pa./Talawanda) found Pirosko for a layup, 18-16. The two teams then exchanged buckets until Faith Williams (Grafton, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) came in off the bench and netted a triple, 26-22, with 4:31 to play in the half. Gannon led at the break, 28-27. Pirosko paced the Knights with 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field in the first half.
  • Clarion started the second half off with a big three pointer from Gatesman to steal the lead, 29-28. Gannon responded with six straight points capped off by two free throws from Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough), 34-29, at the 6:19 mark. Gannon led after three quarters of play, 40-36.
  • Gannon started to pull away in the in the final quarter stretching its edge up to seven, 45-38, following a Mitchell layup and free throw. The Knights kept their foot on the gas building a 12-point edge, 53-41, after Mitchell drove the lane for a layup. After a Clarion free throw, Gannon rattled off seven straight points with buckets from Dogan, Wright and Mitchell to increase the advantage to 16, 60-44, with 3:23 to play. The Knights didn't look back from there and went on to secure their fourth straight win, 65-53.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon improves to 4-0 on the road and 8-1 overall.
  • Gannon shot 51 percent from the field (26-51) and 33.3 percent from three (2-6).
  • The Knights collected 34 total rebounds, including 24 on the defensive end.
  • Gannon created eight steals as a team.
  • The Knights posted 38 points in the paint.  
  • Pirosko tallied a team-high 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. It marked her seventh straight game in double figures. She also grabbed four rebounds with one steal.  
  • Mitchell netted a season-best 16 points and went 7-of-7 at the free throw line in her 100th career game. She also added in four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
  • Dogan notched her first career double-double with 13 points and a career-best 10 rebounds. She also added a career-high two blocks with two steals and one assist to her stat line.
  • Wright rounded out the top performers with 10 points, team-high four assists and two steals.
