GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon got things going early with a 7-2 advantage after Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) connected on a layup from Amani Walker (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute). Coming out of a timeout, Mason Mraz netted a triple for Clarion, 7-5, at the 15:43 mark. The Knights then settled in with 10 unanswered points to increase their edge to 17-5 after Ian McNeill (Erie, Pa./East) collected an offensive rebound and finished with a layup.
  • Following a Golden Eagle three pointer, Alfonso Pickens Jr. (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Emanuel Henriques (Baltimore, Md./Benjamin Franklin) each connected on their own triples to extend the Knights lead to 23-8 with 10:24 to play in the half. Gannon continued to push as Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) delivered a triple in transition to make the score 29-8. Gannon led at the intermission, 37-19.
  • Clarion fought back in the second half after Jarmon Gerald netted a three pointer, 44-29, at the 17:19 mark. The Knights responded with a 9-0 run of their own capped off by a Walker layup and free throw to extend the lead to 53-29. Gerald once again stepped up for the Golden Eagles with five straight points to cut into the edge, 53-34, with 10:22 on the clock.
  • Robertas Jonaitis (Pakruojis, Lithuania/Greater Beckley Christian School) came off the bench and answered for Gannon with a three pointer of his own to make the score 56-34. The Golden Eagles then slowly clawed their way back into the contest cutting the deficit down to 10, 67-57, following a Gerald three pointer with 1:38 to play. Clancy retaliated two possessions later and put the game on ice after Braden Olsen (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) found him behind the arc, 70-57, with 45 seconds to play. Gannon went on to close out the remaining time to pick up the road win, 72-60.
