PAINESVILLE, Oh. – 15 wrestlers from the Gannon University men's team entered the brackets at the Storm Open, hosted by Lake Erie College, and four emerged as placewinners. Freshman Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) (sixth at 157 pounds), freshman Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg Area) (sixth at 174), freshman Eddie Farrell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) (fourth at 197), and junior Gehrig Hutchison (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) (third at 285) battled quality competition, including multiple Division I programs.
 
Coreno opened his day at 157 with a 3-2 decision over Tiffin's Casey Barnett but dropped a 8-0 major decision to Ohio State's Jashon Hubbard in the championship quarterfinals. Dropping to the consi bracket, Coreno picked up a first-period fall in just 1:19 over another Tiffin wrestler, Tanner Alsept, but lost to Garret Thompson of Ohio University via second-period fall in the fifth-place match.
 
Casilio, wrestling unattached at 174 pounds, kicked things off with a sudden victory decision, 6-4, over Lake Erie College's Jordan Barnett. He rode that momentum to a fall in 5;54 over Lucas Daly from Michigan State to advance to the semifinals—but lost a close 3-2 decision to Lake Erie College's John Penfold. Another razor-thin margin denied Casilio in the fifth-place match, losing 8-7 to Ohio State's Bryer Hall to end his day.
 
Farrell wrestled twice on Friday night at the Edinboro tri-meet and managed to recover and earn fourth place at 197 pounds on Sunday. He opened with a major decision over Tiffin's Geraldo Moya 12-4 in the quarterfinals and, despite dropping his next two matches, still secured his spot on the podium.
 
Hutchison went 2-1 on the day, opening the heavyweight bracket with a 3-1 decision over Lake Erie College's Dylan Norris, 3-1. Gehrig added a 7-2 decision over TJ Boyd from Fairmont state in the quarters but lost his semifinal bout 10-4 to Notre Dame College's Laron Parks. The third-place match was uncontested due to medical forfeit.
 
The team now looks forward to a mid-week dual meet with Seton Hill on Wednesday, Dec. 8 in Grensburg, Pa. at 7:00 p.m.
