Gannon Celebrates Senior Night with Four Falls in 44-5 Win over Elmira

ERIE, Pa.  – There was a little bit of everything for Gannon women's wrestling fans on Wednesday night. The Golden Knights wrestled in their first dual of the season and handed Elmira a 44-5 defeat, the largest margin of victory since the program's inception in 2018-19. They handed first-year head coach Breonnah Neal her first dual win. Finally, it was Senior Night, with eight seniors honored before the match.

The eight seniors were Caleeann Blarr (Girard, Pa./Girard), Paige Cook (Kersey, Pa./St. Marys), Mickayla Dockweiler, Danielle Floor (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Leone), Stephanie Floor (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Leone), Caroline Luna-Camarillo (Baldwin Park, Calif./San Dimas), Kendall McGarity (Spring Branch, Texas/Smithson Valley), and Gabby Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua). Five of those seniors either competed in the dual or the six exhibition matches that followed, and all won.

Gannon was able to jump out to a 15-0 lead after the first three matches, all Elmira forfeits. After that, thought the Golden Knights won six of the seven remaining bouts, four by fall and another by technical fall.

Blarr fell behind quickly against Maylin Reyes on a four-point throw. But she would grab a 12-6 lead later in the first period before recording the fall at 2:21. She is now 6-3.

Cook won in her 2021-22 debut as she recorded the fall exactly one minute into the match to give Gannon the 25-0 lead. Dockweiler dominated her match with Kayla Lanning, improving top 3-2 with a 10-0 technical fall, the end coming at 2:47. Stephanie Floor (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Leone) (8-3) took the mat for Gannon at 143 lbs. and held an 8-0 lead over Brooke Williams just over a minute into the match on a pair of four-point throws. Williams was injured on the second and unable to continue.

Elmira would get on the scoreboard with its won fall at 155 lbs., with Skylah Chakouian doing the honors at 1:16 over Gabby Malinowski (Waterford, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf).

Gannon won the final two bouts by fall. Annabelle Helm (Vancouver, Wash./Union) would use three takedowns for a 6-0 lead over Leslie Monterossa after one period. She registered a takedown and a four-point throw early in the second, with the fall coming at 3:32. Helm is now 12-3. Amary Devericks improved to 10-3 after ending the dual with a fall at 1:08 over Hazel Dahlquist.

The two teams wrestled six exhibition matches, with Gannon winning four of the six.

The Golden Knights will not return to the mat now until January 6-7 when they compete in the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky.
