ALBION, Mich. - The Gannon women's wrestling team took first place on Saturday morning at the Albion College Invitational in Michigan. The Golden Knights had six individuals take first place finishes in their respective weight classes, while three others grabbed runner-up finishes.
 
Kat Pendergrass (South Hill, Va./South Granville(NC)) (101 pounds), Mikayla Vega (Escalon, Calif./Escalon) (109), Anya Knappenberger (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) (130), Lana Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) (136), Stephanie Floor (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Leone) (143) and Amara Devericks (San Clemente, Calif./Corona) (191) each earned first places finishes, while Ekta Arora (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) (101), Destiny Gonzalez (Cypress, Calif./John F. Kennedy) (136) and Annabelle Helm (Vancouver, Wash./Union) (170) each finished runner-up.
 
Pendergrass won two bouts against Arora to earn the first place at 101 pounds. At 109, Vega earned five victories by fall to finish first. Three of her bouts lasted under 50 seconds during the event.
 
Knappenberger earned her second-consecutive first place finish at 130 pounds. She picked up three victories by fall and added a technical fall in round three of the bracket. Perez also had a strong showing for Gannon, winner each of her bouts by fall to earn the crown in the 136-weight class. Teammate (Destiny) Gonzalez finished second in the 136 bracket with a 2-1 record. Both of her victories were by fall.
 
At 143, Floor won by technical fall in round one and later in the day won by fall to earn first place in the weight class. Devericks also earned a pair of fall victories at 191 to win the weight class at the invitational.
 
At 170, Helm also had a strong outing for the Golden Knights by opening the event with four-consecutive victories. She won by fall in rounds one and two, before added a pair of technical fall victories in round three and four. She dropped the 170 championship bout by decision and took second place at the event. Helm joined Arora and Gonzalez with second-place finishes for GU.

Gannon women's wrestling will return to competition on Monday, Dec. 1 against Almira College. Start time is set for 7 p.m. at the Gannon Recreation and Wellness Center.
