Blanks Named PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Week for Second Time

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gannon University's Melvin Blanks (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) was named the PSAC West Offensive Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office this morning. Blanks led the Golden Knights to a come-from-behind 13-10 win at East Stroudsburg on Saturday. It marks the second time he has received the award this season. He previously was recognized following the Edinboro game in week eight. Gannon finished with a 5-6 record, the most wins since the 2017 season.

As has been the case all year, Gannon rode the running of the junior running back, who posted his fifth 100-yard effort of the season and sixth of his career. He gained 176 yards on a career-high 34 carries, adding one reception for seven yards. Blanks finishes the year with 1,191 yards on 192 carries with 8 TDs. The 1,191 yards ranks fifth in a season.

Blanks was a workhorse in the second half, leading the Golden Knights back from a 10-3 halftime deficit. In the game-tying six-play, 96-yard drive in the third quarter, he carried three times for 24 yards.

Gannon kicked the winning field goal following a 12-play, 53-yard drive midway through the fourth quarter. The first ten plays were runs, with Blanks lugging the pigskin eight times for 37 yards. All told, in the second half he accounted for 117 yards on 24 carries.
