ADRIAN, Mich. – Gannon women's wresting finished second out of 21 programs on Sunday at the Adrian College Open. The Golden Knights turned in a team score of 181.5 on the day, finishing behind first-place Adrian College with 243.0 total points.
 
Gannon had 13 wrestlers take the mat on Sunday and eight finished with a top-3 finish in their respectively weight classes. Anya Knappenberger (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) highlighted Gannon's day by winning the 130-pound weight class bracket with two falls, a technical fall and an impressive 4-1 decision in the first-place match.
 
Mikayla Vega (Escalon, Calif./Escalon) (109), Juliana Cubias (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) (123), Lana Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) (136), Stephanie Floor (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Leone) (143), Annabelle Helm (Vancouver, Wash./Union) (170) and Amara Devericks (San Clemente, Calif./Corona) (191) all finish runner-up in their weight classes. Caleeann Blarr (Girard, Pa./Girard) finished third at 123 and Julianne Moccia (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) took fourth in the 109 bracket.
 
At 109, Vega began the day with a bye before winning by fall in the quarterfinals and technical fall in the semifinals. She was edged in the first-place match by decision. In the 123 bracket, Cubias picked up a pair of falls to advance to the semifinals, and won by a 10-5 decision in the semifinals to advance to the first-place bout. She fell by technical fall in the final to take second place in the bracket.
 
At 136, Perez began the day with a fall just 32 seconds into her first bout to advance. She followed up that performance with two technical falls to earn her spot in the finals. She fell in the finals by a 15-4 technical fall to finish second. Floor began with a bye in the 143-pound bracket before winning by fall in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to advance to the first-place match in her bracket. She fell in the final by fall and wrapped up the day with a runner-up finish.
 
In the 170 bracket, Helm began the day with a bye before winning by fall in the quarterfinals and technical fall in the semifinals to clinch her spot in the bracket final. In the final she dropped a 4-2 decision and took home the second-place finish for Gannon.
 
Devericks also finished runner-up in the 191 bracket for Gannon. She began her day with a technical fall win in round one before adding a second fall in round two just a minute into her bout. She also won by decision in round three and picked up her second fall victory of the day in the semifinals to reserve her spot in the finals. She took runner-up after falling by an 8-1 decision in the first-place bout.
 
Gannon will return to action next Saturday at the Albion Invitational in Michigan. Next week's event will wrap up the teams competition until early January.
