Golden Knights Wrap Up 3-0 Week with Road Win at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Gannon volleyball wrapped up a 3-0 week with a four-set win over Slippery Rock (25-12, 25-11, 24-26, 25-19) on Saturday afternoon at Morrow Field House on the SRU campus. The Golden Knights played 14 players during the match, with eight different players recording a kill in the win.
 
"It was nice to finish the first half of the conference season with a win," said Gannon volleyball coach Matt Darling. "Among the highlights were the strong performances from Kenzie and Hailey, whose work on defense made a difference in the match today."
 
Kenzie Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) and Katie Becht (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) led Gannon (18-4, 6-2 PSAC West) in the match with 21 and 15 digs, respectively. Lara Toruner (Istanbul, Turkey/Terakki Foundation) also added 12 digs, while Emma Hall (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) finished the match with nine.
 
Offensively, Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) paced the Golden Knights with 10 kills to go with three blocks and two aces. Sam Deinek (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon East) also chipped in nine kills. Hailey Koch (Littleton, Col./Dakota Ridge) also had a big day on the outside with eight kills during the final three sets of the match.
 
Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) passed out 32 assists in the win.
 
Statistically, Gannon held an 11-7 advantage in blocks and a 7-3 edge in service aces. GU also had a commanding 46-32 advantage in kills during the victory.
 
Slippery Rock (4-17, 1-7 PSAC West) struggled on the attack with just 32 kills and 29 errors. The Rock got 10 kills from Abigail Koeller.
 
Gannon will wrap up nonconference play with a 7 p.m. matchup against Daemen College at the Hammermill Center on Tuesday evening.
 
"Looking ahead to next week, we have some challenging matches to prepare for," said Darling. "Hopefully we can keep getting better."
