Three Point Shooting Keys Gannon Win Over No. 25/RV Daemen, 95-67

  • The Short Story: Ike Herster (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) netted a career-best 25 points to lead Gannon past No. 25/RV Daemen, 95-67, on Sunday afternoon at Hammermill Center. Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) chipped in a season-high 18 points, while Amani Walker (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) also reached double digits in scoring with a career-best 11 points.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Daemen jumped out to a quick 7-5 lead before Herster drained a triple to give Gannon its first lead of contest, 8-7, with 18:10 on the clock. Both teams then settled in trading possessions until Robertas Jonaitis (Pakruojis, Lithuania/Greater Beckley Christian School) was able to create a steal and connect on a layup in traffic to make the score 17-16.
  • Gannon started to find an offensive rhythm from there going on a 12-3 run to build its largest lead of the half, 30-23, after Ian McNeill (Erie, Pa./East) netted a jumper. Daemen pushed back with a 10-3 run of its own to lock the contest, 33-33, at the 4:21 mark. Gannon took a three point edge into the break, 43-40. Herster paced the Knights with a team-high nine points to go along with three rebounds and three assists at the intermission.
  • Daemen opened the second half stealing a one point edge, 44-43. Clancy then started heat up for the Knights connecting on back-to-back triples to push lead up to five, 49-44. Gannon went on to build its advantage up to eight, 61-63, after Clancy found Jonaitis for a dunk in transition with 12:57 to play.
  • Coming out of the media timeout, Gannon swelled its edge into double digits, 71-55, with the use of a 10-2 run featuring three pointers from Herster and Cyril Ogbuagu (Lagos, Nigeria/Riverdale Baptist (Md.)). The Knights then started to pull away building their largest lead of the game after Herster delivered a dunk to make the score 92-63 with 1:55 to play. Gannon went on close out the remaining time and complete the weekend sweep of Daemen, 95-67.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon improved to 4-0 on the season and is off to its best start since the 2012-13 season.
  • The Knights netted a season-high 95 points. It marked most points scored by Gannon in a single game since the 2016-17 season.
  • The Knights outscored the Wildcats in the second half, 52-27.
  • Gannon shot a season-best 60.0 percent from three and 59.6 percent from the field. The Knights connected on 15 made triples, which is the most by a Gannon team since at least the 2002-03 season. The Knights also shot a season-best 85.7 percent from the free throw line. 
  • The Knights collected 36 rebounds as a team, including 26 on the defensive end.
  • The Gannon bench contributed 39 points.
  • Herster posted his first career 20-point game with a team-best and career-high 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field. He also connected on a career-best five three pointers to go along with five assists and three rebounds.
  • Clancy reached double digits in scoring for the fourth straight game with a season-best 18 points. He matched a career-best six made three pointers on nine attempts. Clancy also added on a career-high four assists with one steal and one rebound.
  • Amani Walker (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) rounded out the top performers with a career-high 11 points. He also handed out a career-best seven assists and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.
