Gannon opens the season 4-0 for the first time since 2009-10.

  • The Short Story: No. 21 Gannon connected on a season-high 11 three pointers to roll past Roberts Wesleyan on the road, 76-48. Emily Poling (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) (15), Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) (15), Emma Wright (Erie, Pa./Talawanda) (11) and Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) (10) each reached double digits in scoring to lead the Golden Knights.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Roberts Wesleyan came out controlling the pace creating a 7-5 edge to force an early Gannon timeout at the 5:24 mark of the first quarter. The Golden Knights then took control with a momentum swinging 13-2 run featuring five points from Poling to build an 18-9 lead. Gannon led after the opening frame, 18-11.
  • After back-to-back layups from Obenrader, the Redhawks pushed back constructing an 11-3 run to pull within three, 25-22, after Paige McCormick got a jumper to fall with 5:47 to play in the half. Margo Loutzenhiser (Russell, Pa./Warren Area) answered for Gannon delivering two jumpers to extend the edge back to seven, 29-22. The Knights led at the intermission, 38-25. Poling and Obenrader led Gannon with eight points each. The Knights also netted seven triples as a team in the first half.
  • Roberts Wesleyan came out firing in the third quarter cutting the Gannon lead to single digits, 46-37, by the 5:34 mark. Both teams then struggled with turnovers until Pirosko found Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) for a jumper to make the score 52-38. Gannon led after three quarters of play, 55-41.
  • The Knights began to put the game away sprinting out on a 12-4 run to start the final quarter to stretch their lead up 67-45 after Obenrader got a layup to drop. The Redhawks cranked up the pressure with a full court press defense until Loutzenhiser found Wright for the layup, 69-47, with 3:02 remaining. Gannon went to close out the remaining time and earn the road win, 76-48.
GAME NOTES
  • The contest marked just the second all-time meeting between these two programs and first since the 2000-01 season. Gannon leads the all-time series, 2-0.
  • Gannon shot 47.6 percent from the field and connected on a season-high 30 field goals.
  • Gannon also shot 33.3 percent from three and drained as season-best 11 triples.
  • As a team, the Knights passed out a season-high 21 assists.
  • Gannon scored 36 points in the paint and 18 off second chance points.
  • Poling reached double digits in scoring for the third straight game with 15 points. She also contributed six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
  • Obenrader netted 15 points with six rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block.
  • Wright posted her second double digit scoring performance of the season with 11 points. She also added four rebounds, season-high four assists and one block to her stat line.
  • Pirosko rounded out the top performers notching her second straight game in double digits with 10 points. She also hauled in a game-high and career-best nine rebounds to go along with a career-high four assists.
