Women's Wrestling Crowns Three Champions At Adrian Invitational

The Short Story: Caleeann Blarr (Girard, Pa./Girard), Lana Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) and Amara Devericks (Capistrano Beach, Calif./Corona) gave the Gannon women's wrestling team three individual champions on the day as the Golden Knights kicked off the 2020-21 season Sunday afternoon at the Adrian Women's Invitational.

In one of the largest brackets of the round robin event, Blarr went 4-0. Her closest match of the day was a comfortable 13-4 decision in the first round, and she followed that up with a 94-second fall and a pair of 10-0 tech falls to top the podium at 123 pounds.
Devericks picked up a tech in her first bout of the day, but it was a bit tighter for her to finish the day unbeaten, as she topped Adrian's Sienna Lejeune on criteria after a 4-4 tie, and was held close by teammate So in an 8-4 decision at 191.
Perez only had one opponent at 130 pounds, but she grabbed two lopsided wins with tech falls of 10-0 and 14-1 to go 2-0 and top the weight class.
Javier and Dykes, each making their collegiate debut, as well as Floor, finished second on the day, each only dropping one bout. Javier picked up a fall in 27 seconds and a 10-4 decision on the day at 109. Dykes' only setback came to teammate Blarr, and her three wins came by way of two pins and a tech fall. Floor won a 12-10 thriller in her first match, then added a first-period fall and a 10-0 tech at 143.
Beans-Polk also finished in second place. Her 136 bracket was the largest of the tournament, and she had to battle through five matches, winning by fall in the first period in three, with her only defeats coming to champion Elisa Cox of Adrian.
In all, Gannon's 12 grapplers went 22-18 across 40 bouts, including 10 falls and seven tech falls.

Gannon is continuing to add to its 2020-21 schedule, and new events will be announced as they are finalized.
