HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams got off to a slow start today as the Knights brushed off some first game jitters. Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) got things started with a three-point play under the seven minute mark. Margo Loutzenhiser (Russell, Pa./Warren Area) came off the bench a little later to provide the spark Gannon needed with five straight points for the Knights. She would help Gannon to an 11-0 run. The Golden Bears would close the first with two baskets but trailed 16-8 after one.
- The Bears only field goal of the second quarter came at the 9:51 mark as Katrice Jackson knocked down a jumper to start things off. The next basket wouldn't come until the 3:41 mark with a drive by Mitchell. Gannon went on a 12-1 run to close the half. Miles' only other point came from the foul line, while Dogan, Loutzenhiser, and Poling all scored in the run giving Gannon a 28-11 lead at the break.
- Out of halftime, Raiana Johnson scored the first basket hoping to spark Miles' offense. Poling and Obenrader responded with back-to-back jumpers for the Knights. Obenrader would connect from three-point range a short while later helping Gannon to another 10-0 run to close the third. Dogan's pair of free throws would give the Knights a 45-20 edge heading into the final 10 minutes.
- The fourth quarter saw six Golden Knights score. McKel Nation (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) scored her first career point from the free throw line at the 6:21 mark. She scored Gannon's next bucket with three pointer at the 5:04 mark. Faith Williams (Grafton, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) and Daria-Hanna Koul (Minsk, Belarus/J. Addison) both got on the board as Gannon clinched a 64-35 home opening win.
