GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following a day off, Gannon came out swinging scoring five runs in the first inning. Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) got the Golden Knights started cracking a bases-clearing three RBI double down the left field line to put Gannon on the scoreboard, 3-0. On the next at bat, Ryan Kalbus delivered his first home run of the season to send Hess home and extend the lead to 5-0.
  • Both teams then settled in as the game went scoreless for two frames until Minnesota State came alive with four runs in the fourth inning to cut the Gannon edge down one, 5-4. The Mavericks continued to push locking the contest, 5-5, following a RBI double to center field from Teddy Peterson in the seventh inning.
  • The game once again went scoreless for two frames until Justin Hamm (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) connected on a single through the left side to send Kieran Gagnon (Mono, Ontario/Westside) home for the game-winning run, 6-5, in the 10th inning.
