KEY SEQUENCE
  • Down by a goal with under five minutes to play, Gannon buckled down and barely allowed Lynn a possession the rest of the way. Amberlynn Kegler (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) tied things up for the Knights at 10-10 with just under four minutes to go, then Jess Hudak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) cleaned up in front of the net for the go-ahead score with 1:07 left. Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) corralled the ensuing draw, and Gannon ran out the clock for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It took five minutes for the first score of the game to happen, and twice that long for a second goal. Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) gave Gannon the lead with that first score, converting a free position after a long Gannon possession.
  • Tough defense throughout the midfield and in the offensive ends kept the opportunities limited for the next 10 minutes. Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) nearly doubled Gannon's lead on three occasions, putting two shots on goal that required saves, and another that hit the post. Instead, Lynn would net the next two goals less than 30 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead with 14 minutes left in the opening half.
  • A timeout by Gannon didn't immediately shift the momentum — Cheyenne Jess (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) made two big saves for the Knights — but the guests would score the next three goals, with Hudak, Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Courtney Young (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) all scoring on free positions to make it a 4-2 advantage with 7:38 on the clock.
  • Lynn took advantage of a yellow card on the next possession, and scored on a follow-up shot on the man-up opportunity to cut it to a one-goal game. Another yellow on the Knights looked to give Lynn a chance to tie, but Gannon put the pressure on instead, with Hudak and Erica Weir (Rochester, N.Y./Fairport) taking shots before Rotondo netted a man-down goal, and Gannon held a 5-3 advantage at the break.
  • The hosts started the second half on a run, scoring on their first three shots of the period, all within the first two minutes. That boosted them to a 6-5 lead, but Gannon stopped that burst with Jacobs' second goal of the game, just 21 seconds after Lynn's last goal.
  • Gannon took the lead back thanks to a turnover by Lynn, with Tufts finding Young for a 7-6 advantage. The host would go on another run though, taking their only multi-goal lead of the game at 9-7 with 14:19 to play after three straight scores. Just a minute later, Tufts again found Young to cut it back to one at 9-8.
  • Hudak tied it up with nine minutes to play, putting home a free position, but Lynn again went ahead after a long string of possession aided by two Gannon turnovers, making it 10-9 with under five minutes to go. Kegler's goal brought the Knights even once again though, allowing Hudak to win it a few minutes later.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon is now off to a 4-1 start to its season, matching the program's best start through five games since the 2007 team started 7-0. The last time the Knights won at least four of their first five was in 2011.
  • Hudak set a new career high with three goals, and also added three ground balls.
  • Young bounced back from her only scoreless game of the season on Sunday against East Stroudsburg to tally three goals, and is now up to 16 on the season.
  • Jacobs now has six goals in her last three games, all coming on a total of eight shots.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon will get a week off before kicking off its PSAC West and home schedules with a game against Lock Haven March 11.
  • The 4 p.m. first draw from McConnell Family Stadium will feature live stats and live video.
  • Lock Haven holds an 18-7 edge in the all-time series. The Bald Eagles are 1-1 so far in 2020, with two more games to play this week before heading to Erie.
