HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams made for a competitive first quarter with the first four minutes seeing three lead changes and one tie. The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a free throw from Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) and layup from Obenrader. They were quickly matched Seton Hill's Lexi Civittolo who sank a three pointer to knot the game at three. The Griffins took their first lead after Civittolo scored on a fast break for her second straight bucket. Ali Benim (/Harbor Creek) came off the bench midway through the first sinking her first career three pointer to give Gannon a 6-5 lead. Cheyenne Trest connected from the arc just a minute later for SHU to give the Griffins a two-point edge and the lead for the remainder of the first. SHU led 17-16 heading into the second.
  • Obenrader sparked a 7-0 run to start the second quarter. Obenrader and Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) combined for all the points over the two minute stretch. Taylin Tyler eventually broke the run with a layup in the paint. Following Tyler's basket, the Knights used another 7-0 run capped by a three-pointer from Emily Poling (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) at the 4:33 mark to give Gannon a 30-19 lead. Trest eventually broke the scoreless streak for the Griffins with 2:23 left to play, but Obenrader quickly matched the basket to keep Gannon's lead at 11. Benim connected for her final points of the game under the minute mark with her second three-pointer. The Knights led 35-22 heading into halftime.
  • After the break, Seton Hill slowly chipped away at Gannon's lead. The Griffins used their own 7-0 run led by Trest with five points to narrow the lead to six. Mitchell scored back-to-back buckets in the paint including a three-point play to get their lead back to double-figures. Trest hit a three-pointer out of the third quarter media timeout to spark a 10-3 run to close the third. They got within one of the Knights, but Mitchell's layup to close the quarter gave Gannon a 45-42 lead into the fourth.
  • The Knights stepped up in the fourth outscoring the Griffins 24-12 to help solidify the win on Saturday. Obenrader and Mitchell stepped up for Gannon combining for 14 of the 24. Mitchell struck first in the fourth inside the paint, while Obenrader followed suit less than a minute later. Sydney Rabold made it a two-point game with a three-pointer at the 6:47 mark, but that would be the closest the Griffins got to the Knights for the remainder of the game. Rourke knocked down a three-pointer with 2:58 left to play giving the Knights an 11 point edge, which was kept alive by Poling with a pair of free throws down the stretch. Obenrader and Mitchell closed the game with a 5-0 run leading to a 69-54 win over the Griffins.
