The Short Story: The Knights held the Lakers to just five points in the second quarter paving the way for a regular season sweep vs. Mercyhurst. Four players scored double-figures to help Gannon to their largest winning margin of the season.
Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) was named the Game Changer as the Knights keep the Porreco Cup until next season's battles. Tewes finished with 17 points on 8-of-14 from the field. She tallied a team-leading six rebounds, four blocks, and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights were ready to play in the first with five different players sharing scoring responsibilities. Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) connected first giving Gannon the first lead of the game. She scored again under two minutes later jumping out to a 4-1 lead. Emily Shopene scored Hurst's first field goal of the game with 6:54 on the clock, but five straight points from Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Tewes held the Lakers off early. Nicolette Newman came off the Lakers' bench knocking down two straight threes for Hurst. Gannon would lead 15-11 after one.
- Rourke led the Knights on a 10-3 run with six points to open the second. She helped Gannon pull ahead 25-14 at the second quarter media timeout. Newman hit Hurst's first field goal of the quarter with 8:54 on the clock. The next time the Lakers would score was on a free throw from Meghan Komendarek with 5:36 to play. Gannon held Mercyhurst to one more field goal as they closed the quarter with a 12-2 run and led 35-16 at the break.
- The third opened evenly with each team scoring nine points up until the media timeout. Tewes opened the half with a layup, which was quickly matched by five straight points from Amber Renz and Newman for the Lakers. Obenrader and Rourke combined for five straight matching Hurst's effort. Newman continued to carry the Lakers with back-to-back jumpers, while Obenrader reached double-figures on a layup heading into the media timeout. Mitchell and Rourke connected from three-point range out of the timeout, but the Lakers went on a 7-0 run to make a dent in the Gannon lead. Tewes snapped the run with two straight buckets to close the third extending the lead back to 20 points.
- Gannon poured in another 22 points in the fourth to seal the regular season series over Mercyhurst. Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) opened the fourth with a layup. She fought her way in three minutes later for another to wrap up a 7-2 run. Mitchell reached double-figures les then 30 seconds later on back-to-back three pointers for the Knights. Obenrader would also knock down one from the arc before the end of the game helping Gannon to a 76-49 win over Mercyhurst.

GAME NOTES
- Gannon held Mercyhurst to just 16 points in the first half, which is the fewest points given up in a half this season. The previous low was 18 when the Knights made the trip across town to the Lakers in early January. Hurst's five second-quarter points also ties the fewest amount of points given up in a quarter this season. Gannon held Seton Hill to five points in a quarter last week.
- With the win, the Knights swept the regular season series and keep the bragging rights of the Porreco Cup until the teams meet next year. Gannon last swept Hurst in the 2017-18 season.
- Tewes was named the Game Changer of Wednesday's contest. She scored 17 points on 8-of-14 from the field. She also tallied team-highs with six boards, three steals, and four blocks. Her four blocks also marks a new career-best.
- Rourke led Gannon on the floor with 18 points on 7-of-11 from the field. She also knocked down three from the arc. Rourke tallied four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks over 29 minutes.
- Mitchell scored double-figures for the second straight game added 14 in the match-up. She was 4-of-5 from the arc tying her career-high four three-pointers made in a single game. Mitchell also tallied a season-best five rebounds and added five assists.
- Obenrader was the final Knight in double-figures with 17 points. She also grabbed six boards.
- McKinney just missed double-digits with eight points, but she dished out a game-best six assists to make her impact offensively.
- Gannon improves to 12-0 when four players score double-figures. The Knights also shot 53.2 percent from the field and improve to 8-0 when shooting over 50 percent in a game this year.
