EVENT NOTES
  • The four All-America honors are the first for the Gannon program in just its second year of competition.
  • All four had to bounce back after their first loss of the tournament to go in the round of 12 in consolations. Raine benefitted from a forfeit, while Devericks notched an 18-second fall and Helm and McGarity each picked up a tech fall to earn top-eight placements.
  • The trio of upperweights all reached the quarterfinals.
  • Helm grabbed a pin in the first round at 155 before a comfortable 11-4 decision over No. 8 Marlynne Deede of Augsburg in the second round. Her loss in the quarterfinals came to top-ranked Jayden Laurent of Lakeland, and she'll have a rematch with Emma Justo, who she pinned in the first round, in Saturday's consolation quarters.
  • Devericks opened things up with a tech fall at 170, but was edged by Life's fourth-ranked Jordan Nelson in the quarterfinals. A quick fall over No. 8 Samantha Cushard of Adrian got her into the consolation quarterfinals, where she will face Ashley Molina of Texas Wesleyan.
  • McGarity had the unlucky fate to draw No. 1 Nkechinyere Nwankwo of Oklahoma City after a bye at 191. She bounced back from the defeat with an impressive tech in 1:42 in the round of 12, but she'll get another tough task Saturday morning, when she'll meet No. 2 Leilani Camargo-Naone of Midland.
  • The Knights sit 10th in the team standings after the first day. Campbellsville leads the team race with 11 wrestlers still in the championship bracket.
