  • The Short Story: Four Golden Knights posted double digits in scoring to help Gannon pick up a key road win over California, 82-71, on Saturday afternoon to wrap up regular season play. Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) netted a game-high 25 points to pace the Golden Knights.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams traded possessions to open the contest until Webb was able to use some speed to find his way to the hoop for a layup, 6-5, at the 16:09 mark. The Vulcans responded with five unanswered points to build a 10-6 edge after Tim Smith Jr. got a layup to drop. Gannon then settled in constructing an 11-2 run to regain the lead, 17-12, after Matt Johnson (Gary, Ind./Adlai E. Stevenson) drained a triple with 10:12 to play in the half.
  • California pushed back chipping the Gannon edge down to three, 23-20, following a jumper from Smith. The Knights quickly stretched their lead back up to seven, 29-22, after Webb netted a layup. Gannon led at the break, 40-35. Webb and DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) paced the Knights will 11 points each. Gannon also shot 53.6 percent (15-28) from the field as team in the first 20 minutes.
  • The Knights came out shooting in the second half assembling an 11-5 run to open the half and extend their lead into double digits, 51-40, after Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) connected on a free throw. Zyan Collins answered for the Vulcans to knock down a triple, 51-43, with 15:35 remaining. California continued to push cutting the deficit down to single digits, 60-51, after Luke House drained a three.
  • Following a pair of Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) free throws, the Vulcans stormed back to pull within three, 69-66, following a triple from Jermaine Hall Jr. with 4:54 to play. The Knights then rattled off six unanswered points to push their edge back up to nine, 75-66, following a jumper from Johnson. Gannon went on to close out the remaining time to earn the road win, 82-71.
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon shot 51.9 percent (28-54) from the field and 76.9 percent (20-26) from the free throw line.
  • The Knights shot 37.5 percent (6-16) from three.
  • Gannon scored 30 points in the paint.
  • The bench contributed 17 points.
  • Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) reached the 20-point scoring mark the second straight game with a game-high 25 points. He shot 7-of-10 from the field and connected on nine free throws. Webb also chipped in five rebounds, three steals and two assists. It marked his fifth 20-point game this season.
  • Johnson netted 17 points with three rebounds and three assists. He has reached double figures in scoring 14 times this season.
  • Cisero posted 15 points with four rebounds. It marked his fifth straight game producing double digits in scoring.
  • Olawoye came off the bench and chipped in 11 points with seven rebounds and three steals.
  • Dodds rounded out the top performers hauling in a team-high eight rebounds with five points, two assists and two steals.
UP NEXT
  • Gannon will travel to California for the First Round of the PSAC Tournament on Monday. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Convocation Center.
  • It will mark the Knights' ninth appearance in the PSAC Tournament since joining the conference in 2008-09.
  • Gannon has won two PSAC Championships in program history (2015, 2009).
