  • The Short Story: Gannon saw its season come to end in the First Round of the PSAC Tournament at California on Monday night, 74-58. DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) (17) and Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) (12) both reached double digits in scoring to lead the Golden Knights.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon controlled the pace early running out to a 6-0 lead after Cisero drained a jumper at the 15:52 mark. The Vulcans answered with five straight points to pull within one, 6-5. Gannon then pushed back assembling a 6-2 run to extend its lead to 12-7 after a pair of free throws from Webb.
  • Both teams went on to trade possessions until California took its first lead of the game, 20-18, after Tim Smith Jr. drained a jumper with 6:29 to play in the half. The Vulcans kept their foot on the gas building a four point edge, 26-22, following a Luke House layup at the 3:38 mark. California led at the break, 37-27. Cisero paced all scorers with 12 points, while Webb chipped in seven points. The Knights also hauled in 21 rebounds in first half.
  • Gannon came out firing in the second half to cut the California edge down to six after Webb found Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) for a three, 41-35, at the 16:05 mark. The Vulcans retaliated with four quick points to push their lead back up to 10, 45-35, following a pair of Brent Pegram free throws. California then started to pull away as House drilled a momentum swinging three pointer, 50-37, with 12:42 remaining.
  • Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) came off the bench and provided a spark for the Knights and was able to connect on back-to-back layups to cut the Vulcan lead down to single digits, 50-43, at the 10:19 mark. The Vulcans once again had an answer on the next possession after Jermaine Hall netted a three pointer, 53-43, with 9:27 to play. Gannon couldn't cut the deficit down any further and went on to drop the contest, 74-58.
GAME NOTES
  • The contest marked Gannon's ninth appearance in the PSAC Tournament since joining the conference in 2008-09.
  • Gannon shot 33.3 percent (19-57) from the field and 78.3 percent (18-23) from the free throw line.
  • The Knights netted 24 points in the paint.  
  • Gannon collected 38 rebounds as a team, including 25 on the defensive end. 
  • Cisero reached double figures in scoring for the sixth straight game with a team-high 17 points. He also added five rebounds, one block and one assist to his stat line. It marked his 20th time this season producing double digits in scoring.
  • Webb posted his third straight double digit scoring performance with 12 points and nine rebounds. He connected on a career-high 10 free throws on 12 attempts. Webb also generated a game-high three steals with two assists.
  • Matt Johnson (Gary, Ind./Adlai E. Stevenson) contributed nine points with two rebounds and two assists.
  • Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) rounded out the top performers hauling in nine rebounds with two points, one block and one steal.
