HOW IT HAPPENED
- Slippery Rock jumped out to an early lead before the first quarter media timeout. The Rock used a 5-0 run sparked by a three-point play from LeeAnn Gibson to take an 8-3 edge with 4:44 left in the first. Out of the timeout Gannon scored eight straight points, six of which came from the foul line. Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) hit a three to end the quarter to take a 20-12 lead into the second.
- Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) opened the second with another three-pointer for the Knights. The Rock strung together another 5-0 run, but Delaney Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) responded for Gannon with four straight points. Rourke followed Dogan's run driving in for her own layup, which set Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) up for a steal and layup on the Rock's inbound pass forcing a timeout. Brooke Hinderliter scored at the 5:01 mark for SRU, but a three-pointer from Rourke sparked a 12-4 run over the final five minutes, and Gannon took a 20-point lead into halftime.
- The Rock scored the first four points of the third attempting to rally in the second half. Mitchell put an end to the rally before the Rock could really get going with five straight points for the Knights. Hinderliter broke the run from the foul line with one shot, but a free throw from Mitchell on the next possession sparked a 9-0 run. Mitchell and Obenrader hit back-to-back threes to cap the run and force a SRU timeout. Obenrader connected again from three-point range out of the timeout helping Gannon extend their lead to 30 points. Emily Poling (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) got her turn from three-point range with 1:34 left in the quarter. It would be Gannon's final bucket of the third as the Knights took a 67-36 lead into the final quarter.
- Just like the third quarter, the Rock scored the first points of the fourth. Daeja Quick got her turn this time scoring three straight for SRU. Gannon responded with a 12-0 run and held the Rock scoreless for 4:26. Rourke started the run with back-to-back layups. Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) fought her way in the lane next, followed by Daria-Hanna Koul (Minsk, Belarus/J. Addison) and Ali Benim (/Harbor Creek). Hinderliter finally scored for the Rock on a pair of free throws just under the two minute mark. She scored four more free throws before the end of the quarter, but Gannon held on for an 87-50 win over Slippery Rock.
