  • The Short Story: Gannon jumped out an early 9-2 lead and didn't look back rolling past Clarion, 71-51, Wednesday night. 11 different Golden Knights reached the scoring column with Matt Johnson (Gary, Ind./Adlai E. Stevenson) leading the way with a team-high 16 points.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Clarion drained a layup to open the contest, Gannon settled in with nine unanswered points to steal the lead, 9-2. Johnson and DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) paced the Knights over the run with four points each. Gannon continued to control the pace stretching its edge into double figures, 15-4, following a jumper from Cisero at the 14:45 mark.
  • The Golden Eagles pushed back with a 5-2 run to make the score 17-9 with 12:56 to play in the half. The Knights then assembled a 12-2 run to extend their lead to 29-11 after Javier Valeiras (La Gomera, Spain/IES Felo Monzon) drained a triple at the 8:47 mark. Gannon led at the intermission, 39-20. Johnson led all scorers with 12 points. The Knights scored 19 points off of turnovers in the first half and created nine steals.
  • Gannon opened the second half extending its lead to 48-24 after Cisero tipped a shot in. The Knights continued to control the pace opening up their largest lead of the game, 57-31, after Michael Tertsea (Benue State, Nigeria/John Carroll) got a layup to drop and then completed the three point play with a free throw with 11:38 remaining.
  • Both teams then exchanged possessions until Valeiras drained a jumper to make the score 63-39 at the 8:15 mark. Clarion made one final push connecting on three straight possessions to cut the Gannon edge down to 20, 67-47, with 3:46 remaining. However, the Knights went on to close out the remaining time to earn the win and snap their two-game losing streak, 71-51.
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon shot 50.9 percent (28-55) from the field and 77.8 percent from (14-18) from the free throw line.
  • The Knights hauled in 35 total rebounds, including 27 on the defensive end of the floor.
  • Gannon scored 21 points off of turnovers.
  • The Knights netted 42 points in the paint.
  • The Gannon bench contributed 29 points.
  • Johnson hit double figures in scoring for the fourth straight game with a team-high 16 points. He also added three assists, two rebounds and one steal to his stat line.
  • Cisero also reached double digits in scoring for the third consecutive game with 15 points to go along with five rebounds and one block. It marked his team-best 17th time recording double figures in scoring this season.
  • Webb notched a game-high three steals. He also contributed eight points, five rebounds and three assists.
