HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Tusculum got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the second inning, the Gannon offense came alive exploding for a four-run third inning to steal the lead, 4-2. Brandon Wetherholt (Gibsonia, Pa./Mars Area) got the Golden Knights going with a sacrifice fly sending Jorge Mejia (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Jose) home for the first run of the day. Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge) followed it up connecting on an RBI double to right center to lock the contest, 2-2. Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) then stepped into the box and smashed a two RBI home run over the left field wall to steal the lead, 4-2.
  • The Pioneers responded with a momentum swinging six run fourth inning to double up the Knights, 8-4.
  • Following scoreless fifth and sixth frames, Tusculum tacked on one run in the seventh and five more in the eighth inning to put the contest out of reach, 14-4.
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon registered a season-high 10 hits and four RBI as a team.
  • The Knights left 12 runners on base.
  • Hess led the Knights with a team-high two RBI, two hits and one run. He also connected on his first home run of the season and 13th of his career.
  • Trey Zeroski (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny) and Wetherholt each contributed two hits.
  • Benjamin Visnesky (West Mifflin, Pa./West Mifflin Area) (0-1) got the start for Gannon and posted a game-high four strikeouts over 3.2 innings of work.
  • Andrew Mottola (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) came out of the bullpen and tossed two strikeouts over 3.1 innings.
  • Mason Haley (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley) tallied two strikeouts over .2 innings of action.
  • Jacob Herrit (Butler, Pa./Knoch) and Thomas Boyd (Erie, Pa./McDowell) also came out of the bullpen for the Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following a scoreless opening inning, Tusculum jumped out an early 2-0 lead in the second frame after Jordan Beaver delivered an RBI single to second base.
  • The Knights defense held strong in the third holding the Pioneers scoreless after Jacob Visha (Cleveland, Ohio/Trinity) tossed a strikeout to go along with a fly out and ground out.
  • Gannon threatened to get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning getting two runners on base, but Quiceno was tagged out at second to end the frame.
  • The Pioneers offense then came alive stretching their lead up five, 5-0, following a three run bottom half of the fourth inning. Tusculum added one more insurance run in the fifth frame to seal the win, 6-0.

  • Mejia notched one hit and one stolen base.
  • Quiceno posted one hit.
  • Justin Hamm (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) also added one stolen base.
  • Visha (0-1) got the start and tossed a team-best three strikeouts over 5.0 innings of work.
  • John Bender (Wilson, N.Y./Wilson) closed the game for the Knights with two strikeouts over 1.0 innings.

  • The Knights will return to action with a seven-game road swing in Winter Haven, Fla. on March 1-7. Gannon will face seven teams from three different conferences beginning with Tiffin on March 1. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Chain O'Lakes Stadium.
