Gannon Grinds Out 75-61 Win Over Seton Hill

Four players reached double digits in scoring.

  • The Short Story: Gannon connected on 20 second half free throws to get past Seton Hill, 75-61, on Wednesday night. DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) paced the Golden Knights with a team-high 20 points to go along with eight rebounds.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams exchanged possessions in a first half that saw 11 total lead changes. Gannon was able to open its largest lead of the frame, 12-8, following layups from Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) and Matt Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson). The Griffins answered right back to steal the edge with a 5-0 run, 13-12, with 10:22 on the clock.
  • After the teams traded buckets, Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) found Cisero for a layup to capture the lead for the Knights, 18-17, at the 8:03 mark. Gannon pushed its lead up to two, 29-27, after Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) drained a layup with 1:19 to play in the half.  Gannon went on to take a 29-27 lead into the intermission. Webb paced the Knights at the break with 10 points and six rebounds.
  • Seton Hill opened the second half with a 5-2 run to steal the lead, 32-31, with 17:44 to play. The Knights offense then came alive with a huge 18-6 run to create an 11 point edge, 49-38, at the 9:36 mark. Clancy fueled the run for the Knights with nine points and connecting on three triples.
  • Seton Hill pushed back with five unanswered points to pull back within six, 49-43, with 8:05 to play. The Griffins continued to cut into the Knight edge pulling within four, 55-51, with 3:50 remaining. Gannon then capitalized at the free throw line knocking down eight straight free throws to stretch their lead up to 12, 63-51, with 1:27 to play. Gannon went on to close out the remaining time to earn the win, 75-61
GAME NOTES
  • The game featured 15 total lead changes and four tie scores.
  • Gannon shot 23-of-26 from the free throw line as a team, including 20 free throws in the second half.
  • The Knights won the rebounding battle, 31-29. Eight different players contributed at least one rebound for Gannon.
  • Cisero led the Knights with his third 20-point game of the season with a team-high 20 points. He also added eight rebounds, two blocks and one assist to his stat line. Cisero buried a career-high 10 free throws on 10 attempts. He has reached double digits in scoring in his last five games and eight total times this season.
  • Webb posted his first double-double of the season with 14 points and game-high 10 rebounds. He also chipped in three assists and two blocks.
  • Johnson netted a career-high 17 points with four rebounds and three assists. He shot 5-of-9 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
  • Clancy rounded out the top performers with 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and one block. He shot 3-of-6 from three and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
