Cisero Double-Double Powers Gannon to Third Straight Win Over Edinboro, 79-59

Five Knights reached double digits in scoring.

  • The Short Story: DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) notched his second double-double of the season with a game-high 27 points and season-high 11 rebounds to power Gannon past Edinboro, 79-59, on Friday night in the inaugural EUknighted Games to benefit Pennsylvania Soldiers' & Sailors' Home.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro opened the contest doubling up Gannon, 12-6, by the 15:18 mark. The Knights then settled in with five straight points to make the score 12-11 after a pair of free throws from Cisero. Gannon continued to apply pressure to pull within one, 14-13, after Javier Valeiras (La Gomera, Spain/IES Felo Monzon) netted a layup with 12:03 on the clock.
  • The Knights then found an offensive rhythm with an 8-0 run to stretch their lead up to seven, 21-14. Cisero fueled the streak with four points, while Michael Tertsea (Benue State, Nigeria/John Carroll) and Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) each added two points. Edinboro pushed back with a 7-2 run of its own to pull within two, 23-21. However, Gannon led at the intermission, 40-32. Cisero led the Knights with a team-high 16 points at the half.
  • Gannon came out firing to open the second half extending its lead to 46-35 after a Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) layup. The Knights then began to pull away stretching their edge into double figures after Matt Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) tipped a bucket in to make the score 48-37 with 16:13 remaining.
  • The two teams then exchanged points until Webb connected on back-to-back three pointers increasing the Knights edge to 17, 60-43, with 10:27 to play. Gannon didn't look back and went on to build its largest lead of the game, 79-51, following a jumper from Cisero with 2:30 remaining. The Knights closed out the remaining time to earn their third straight win, 79-59.

  • Gannon won its third straight game, which is its longest win streak of the season.
  • Five Knights reached double digits in scoring.
  • Gannon won the rebounding battle, 43-34. The Knights have won the rebounding battle in eight of their first 10 games this season. Gannon had seven players contribute at least two rebounds in the contest.
  • The Knights netted 42 points in the paint.
  • Cisero registered his second double-double of the season and matched a career-high 27 points with a season-high 11 rebounds. He connected on a career-high 12 field goals on 17 total attempts. It is the second time this season he has netted at least 20 points in a contest and sixth total time posting double digits in scoring.
  • Olawoye totaled 11 points with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. It is the sixth time this season he has produced double digits in scoring.
  • Johnson tallied 11 points and matched a season-high six assists. He also chipped in three rebounds.
  • Tertsea posted a career-high 10 points and matched a season-best eight rebounds. He also added one assist, one block and one steal.
  • Webb rounded out the top performers with 10 points and six rebounds with one assist. He leads the Knights with a team-best seven double figure scoring games this season.
