Clancy, Cisero Lead Gannon Past Clarion on the Road, 61-53

  • The Short Story: Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) and DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) both reached double figures in scoring to help lead Gannon past Clarion, 61-53, in a PSAC West road contest.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon opened the contest with an 8-2 run, which was capped by a Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) triple. The Knights continued to control the tempo early on stretching their lead to double digits, 14-4, after Clancy netted a layup at the 14:12 mark. Clarion then responded assembling a momentum swinging 13-2 run to steal the lead, 17-16, with 8:31 to play in the half.  
  • The two teams then settled in trading buckets to lock the contest, 21-21, after Olawoye drained a jumper at the 5:57 mark. Neither team would be able to build a lead larger than three points the rest of way as the contest was tied after the first half, 28-28. Clancy led all scorers at the break with 13 points, while Cisero added in eight points with three rebounds.
  • Clancy picked up where he left off delivering a triple on the Knights' first possession of the second half, 31-28, with 19:44 on the clock. Gannon then slowly built a nine point, 46-37, advantage after Cisero connected on a layup to force a Clarion a timeout with 9:51 remaining.
  • Gannon continued to push following back-to-back layups from Kevin Dodds (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Cisero, 52-43, with 6:02 to play. The Golden Eagles pushed back taking advantage of turnovers to pull within five, 52-47, with 1:29 on the clock. Gannon then connected on clutch free throws to close out the game and earn the 61-53 road win.
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon pulled in 42 rebounds as a team compared to Clarions' 28.
  • Gannon shot 13-of-14 from free throw line as a team, including 11 in the second half.
  • Clancy matched a career-high 22 points with three steals, two rebounds and one assist. He shot 6-of-12 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Clancy also connected on four three pointers for the Knights on 10 attempts. It marked his seventh game this season netting at least four triples.
  • Cisero posted his seventh straight double digit scoring game with 17 points. He also contributed six rebounds, one assist and one steal. The contest marked his 10th double digit scoring performance of the season.
  • Dodds matched a season-high eight rebounds to go along with four points.
  • Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) matched a career-high five steals. He also tallied eight points, seven rebounds and three assists.
