  • Gannon wasted no time doubling up Mercyhurst, 12-6, after Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) found Johnson on the perimeter at the 15:29 mark. The Lakers then slowly cut the Knight lead down to one, 15-14, with 9:10 on the clock. Gannon responded with nine unanswered points to open up its largest lead of the game, 24-14, after Olawoye buried a pair of free throws.
  • Mercyhurst pushed back constructing a 10-2 run of its own, which included a buzzer-beating triple as time expired in the half to pull within two, 26-24. Johnson led the Knights with 10 points and three rebounds, while DeAnte Cisero (Chicago, Ill./Montgomery County (Ky.)) added six points. The Knights shot 9-of-17 from the field and 4-of-6 from three.
  • Gannon got things going quickly in the second half with five straight points to extend its lead to seven, 31-24, after Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) netted a triple at the 18:27 mark. The Lakers then seized momentum taking advantage of Knight turnovers and rattled off 12 unanswered points to steal the lead, 36-31.
  • Gannon slowly pulled its way back to lock the contest, 42-42, following another three pointer from Clancy with 9:49 remaining. Both teams then traded baskets until Mercyhurst built a late four point edge, 53-49, at the 1:33 mark. Following a Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) three and a Laker jumper, Johnson answered for the Knights navigating the lane for a contested jump shot and then knocking down a clutch free throw to tie the contest, 55-55, with 21 seconds to play.
