Gannon Wraps Up National Duals With Sixth-Place Finish Saturday

The Short Story — Pins from Gabrielle Malinowski (Waterford, Pa./Fort Leboeuf), Annabelle Helm (Vancouver, Wash./Union) and Mikayla Vega (Escalon, Calif./Escalon) got the Knights back in it to tie it up heading into the final match, but No. 4 Emmanuel took the deciding bout to sneak away with a win in the fifth-place match at the National Duals Saturday.

The two top-six teams went back and forth throughout the match, with Emmanuel earning a tech and a forfeit out of the gate before Mikayla Vega (Escalon, Calif./Escalon) picked up a fall 71 seconds into her match at 116 pounds to put the Knights back into it.
The Lions built their lead again with two more bonus-point wins to hit the midway point, but Gannon charged back. Gabrielle Malinowski (Waterford, Pa./Fort Leboeuf) and Annabelle Helm (Vancouver, Wash./Union) each grabbed first-period falls around Stephanie Floor (Pago Pago, American Samoa/Leone) holding No. 3 Julia Padilla to a decision and getting a point out of it.
After Amara Devericks (Capistrano Beach, Calif./Corona) picked up a forfeit at 170, the score was tied at 21, leading into a matchup of ranked wrestlers at 191 to decide it. Kendall McGarity (Spring Branch, Texas/Smithson Valley) got the opening point, but No. 7 Christina Santoyo caught her later in the period to wrap up the fall and seal the win for Emmanuel.
