HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Indiana came ready to play Saturday night scoring four straight points to open the half. Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) and Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) got on the board early for Gannon, but the Knights were held scoreless from the 7:16 mark until 48 seconds remained. Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) broke the IUP run with a layup, and Obenrader made it a six-point lead with a last second three pointer to close the first.
  • Gannon hung with the Crimson Hawks in the second quarter chipping away at their lead from the start. Over the first six minutes, the Knights went on an 8-3 run highlighted by Pirosko with four points. IUP took their largest lead of the second after seven straight points. Natalie Myers sparked the run with a layup and Justina Mascaro scored five straight. Rourke responded for Gannon battling her way into the paint for a layup. Obenrader and Rourke would combine for the final seven points of the half to trail the Hawks 25-24 at the break.
  • The Knights took their first lead of the game less than two minutes into the third quarter. Rourke and Obenrader scored on back-to-back plays to give Gannon a 28-27 edge. IUP's Myers and Gannon's Ali Benim (/Harbor Creek) helped the teams trade leads over the next few possessions. The Hawks scored five straight to regain control 34-30. The closest Gannon would get for the remainder of the third was within two points as IUP led 42-37 heading into the final 10 minutes.
  • IUP pulled away in the fourth quarter with a 13-0 run sparked by a pair of free throws from Mascaro. She would close the run with a layup before Obenrader knocked down a pair from the foul line. Daria-Hanna Koul (Minsk, Belarus/J. Addison) and Margo Loutzenhiser (Russell, Pa./Warren Area) each got on the board for Gannon, but the Knights six game win streak is snapped with a 62-48 loss to the Hawks.
