Women's Volleyball Heads Across Town for Match at Mercyhurst

First on the slate for Gannon this week is volleyball with a match across town at Mercyhurst. The Lady Knights take the court at 7 p.m. in the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. Gannon hasn't lost a set since Sept. 20 winning five straight matches 3-0. The Knights dominated their conference opening weekend with wins over Lock Haven and Bloomsburg. Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) had back-to-back match-best performances with 28 assists vs. Lock Haven and another 25 vs. Bloomsburg. Mercyhurst heads into Tuesday's match with several sweeps under its belt having swept the last four. The Lakers picked up two conference wins also over Lock Haven and Bloomsburg winning 3-0 last weekend. The Knights lead the all-time series 45-26 after having beat the Lakers 3-0 twice last season.

The Lady Knights continue their road trip at East Stroudsburg Friday night and are set to take the court at 7 p.m. ESU is 11-3 heading into this week and will play Edinboro Thursday night prior to Gannon. They are on a six match win streak with their most recent victory last weekend over Slippery Rock. The Knights lead the all-time series 15-3. The teams split their matches last year. Gannon picked up a 3-0 sweep in the first round of the PSAC Tournament.
 
Volleyball Ends Road Action Saturday at Kutztown

Gannon closes a three-game road trip at Kutztown Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. match at the Keystone Arena. Kutztown dropped their last four matches including their first two conference match-ups. They fell 3-2 to Slippery Rock and were swept by Clarion. The Knights lead the all-time series 13-1.

Men's soccer is back in action this Wednesday with a home match. Gannon looks to keep their record golden with a 4 p.m. kickoff vs. Bloomsburg to start a three-game homestand at McConnell Family Stadium. The Golden Knights are coming off a 2-1 win over Millersville last week. Toby Gower (Norwich, England/Long Stratton) tied the match in the 36th minute for Gannon, who would eventually score on an own goal that went off MU's own player. The No. 8 Knights improved to 5-0 as they begin to close out non-conference play. The Huskies split their last four games going 2-2-0 in PSAC East play. They dropped their first conference game to Shippensburg, won two straight vs. Shepherd and East Stroudsburg, and fell over the weekend 2-1 in double overtime to Lock Haven. The Knights lead the all-time series 14-3-1 and look to add another win Wednesday night.

The Golden Knights finish off this week's action with the annual Soctober event. The match is set to start at 7:30 p.m. following the women's soccer match at McConnell Family Stadium. Full Information on the event can be found at the Gannon Alumni Page. Among the activities is a reception dinner, alumni games, and a pre-match tailgate. The Vulcans won their only game this season vs. Daemen 5-1. Gannon leads the all-time series 16-6-0.

The Lady Knights return to action after a week off for their only home event of the year. Gannon will hit the course at 11 a.m. The teams racing are Gannon, Mercyhurst, Seton Hill, West Virginia Wesleyan, Salem, Westminster, La Roche, and a couple junior colleges will join the action. Before their week break, the Knights placed 16th out of 35 teams at the Lock Haven Invitational. Kayla Giambrone (Russell, Pa./Warren Area) posted her best 6k time of 24:41.7. Sarah Fiorello (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) led the ladies with Gannon's highest finish and a time of 23:35.8.

Following the women's race, the men's cross country teams of Gannon, Mercyhurst, Seton Hill, West Virginia Wesleyan, Salem, Westminster, La Roche, and the junior colleges will take the course for their race. This is also the men's only home race of the season. The Golden Knights have fresh legs for Saturday after a week break following the Lock Haven Invitational. At Lock Haven, Joseph Westrick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) and Ryan Garich (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) led Gannon with career-best times. Westrick placed fourth overall and first for the Knights with a time of 25:07.7. His previous career-best was set earlier this season. Garich shaved over two minutes off his best time with a 6th place finish and time of 25:19.9. The final five placers for Gannon all finished within two minutes of each other.
 
 
Swimming and Diving Opens 2019-20 Season at Buffalo State Relays

Both men's and women's swimming and diving teams open 2019-20 action this weekend at the Buffalo State Relays. The men are coming off a 5-4 season. They placed third out of seven team at the PSAC Championships earning them a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championships. The women are coming off a seventh place finish last season at the PSAC Championships. Their wins last year came against Edinboro and Grove City College. They finished first at the Westminster Relay Meet and third out of 11 teams at the Wooster Invitational. With a new head coach leading the way, the Knights look to make a splash this season on their way to the PSAC Championships.

Gannon snapped a three game losing streak last week with a 2-1 win over California. Megan McCartney (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) knocked in the game winner on a penalty kick drawn by Vanessa Coccurello (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean de Brebeuf). The Knights also traveled to Edinboro where they tied for the first time this season. The Eagles are on a five game losing streak having lost to five straight PSAC opponents. Clarion will play Mercyhurst Wednesday before traveling to Gannon on Saturday. The Knights lead the all-time series 13-3-2.
