  • The Short Story: Gannon pushed its win streak to five matches after blanking Bloomsburg, 3-0, Saturday afternoon. Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) led the Lady Knights distributing a match-best 25 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams traded points in the first set until Gannon erupted on a 5-0 run to make the score 8-2. Following a Bloomsburg set error, the Knights stretched their lead into double figures, 14-4. Gannon closed the set out with a momentum swinging 8-0 run to seal the opening frame, 25-7, after a kill from Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran).
  • The Knights opened the second set jumping out to a 15-9 advantage following an Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) kill. Bloomsburg then pushed back to chip the deficit down to two, 22-20, after an 8-1 run. However, Gannon then rattled off three straight points to steal the second frame, 25-20.
  • The Huskies didn't go away in the third set and stole the early lead, 6-4. Gannon responded with a 6-1 run to regain the lead, 18-11, following a Smith kill. The Knights went on to close out the set, 25-21.
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play 2-0 for the first time since 2016 when they advanced to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional.
  • The Knights recorded their fifth straight sweep and seventh of the season.
  • As a team, Gannon held the edge in kills (38-24), assists (30-21) and digs (41-33). The Knights also posted a .326 hitting percentage as a team.
  • Gannon had 10 players record at least one kill with Smith connecting on a match-best nine kills.
  • The Knights had eight players notch a dig on the defensive end of the floor with Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) registering a team-best 10 digs.
UP NEXT
  • Gannon continues PSAC play at Mercyhurst on Tuesday. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
  • Last season, Gannon swept Mercyhurst in both meetings, 3-0. The Knights have won the last six meetings and lead the all-time series, 45-26.
